Job Summary
The Accountant will have an excellent knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and concepts, including financial reporting. They will demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit while interacting with staff and congregants. They will have a teachable spirit and protect the confidential financial integrity of the Church. He or she will seek to perform all duties as unto the Lord, relying on the Holy Spirit for guidance, and completing all tasks with excellence.
Performance Dimensions and Tasks
Accounting Support
- Record entries to proper accounts
- Review accounts for discrepancies and reconcile differences
- Prepare adjusting journal entries
- Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Provide recommendations regarding daily operating procedures to identify improvements in workflow and/or reporting procedures
- Ensure compliance with all current accounting principles
- Support the development and analysis of budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted cost to actual cost
- Support the preparation, examination, and analysis of accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards
- Assist in developing new or updating existing accounting policies and related procedures to ensure current with current Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Analyze business operations, trends, cost, revenue, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenue and expenses and assist in business operational decision making
- Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology
- Advise management about issues such as resource utilization and/or the assumptions underlying budget forecasts
- Appraise, evaluate, and inventory real property and equipment, recording information such as the description, value, and location of property
- Survey operations to ascertain accounting needs and to recommend, develop, or maintain solutions to business and financial problems
- Resolve congregant questions pertaining to contributions
- Ensure daily operations and monthly reporting comply with U.S. GAAP
- Support auditor request
Job Specifications
- Age: Minimum age of 18 required; Minimum age of 21 preferred.
- Education: Bachelor of science in Accounting required; CPA preferred
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in an Accounting role required
- Knowledge: Proficient in Microsoft Suite; Knowledge of QuickBooks Online; Knowledge of SAP Concur systems
- Skills/Abilities: Interpersonal; Communication; Problem-solving abilities; Detail-oriented; Organized
- Other Characteristics: Patient; Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job; Teachable spirit; Completes tasks in a timely manner
