Lifeguards play a vital role in ensuring the safety of guests by maintaining a watchful eye on swimmers, enforcing facility rules, and responding to emergencies. The Premium Shift Lifeguard position combines all standard Lifeguard responsibilities with additional duties focused on the safety, cleanliness, water quality, and overall upkeep of the pool facility. This position is designed for individuals who are available to work Monday through Friday beginning at 4:45 a.m. Premium Shift Lifeguards receive an additional $2.00 per hour above their regular Lifeguard rate for hours worked in the Premium Shift assignment. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: Supervise swimmers and participants during all pool activities, maintaining constant vigilance, scanning assigned areas, conducting hourly wellness and safety checks, and ensuring a safe environment. Enforce all pool and facility rules while maintaining a firm, fair, and friendly approach to safety and discipline. Perform lifeguard duties in accordance with StarGuard guidelines, including responding to emergencies, conducting rescues, administering first aid/CPR, and following Emergency Action Plans and established safety procedures. Monitor pool and facility operations and promptly report safety, maintenance, equipment, cleanliness, or water quality concerns to the manager or assistant manager. Monitor pool water quality, including temperature and chemical levels, as required. Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming facility, including the pool deck, lifeguard office, locker rooms, and surrounding areas. Duties may include sweeping, hosing surfaces, wiping equipment, and properly storing supplies. Provide excellent customer service by assisting patrons with questions, concerns, directions, and special requests. Assist with routine facility upkeep and maintenance to ensure the pool and surrounding areas are safe and ready for patrons and programming. Maintain and continuously practice lifeguard skills to ensure readiness and emergency preparedness. Attend and participate in required in-service training, skill evaluations, district-wide part-time staff orientations, and crisis training. Performs other duties as assigned. Job Qualifications: Applicants must be 16 years of age or older in compliance with Illinois Child Labor Laws and the Fair Labor Standards Act. Responsible for wearing corrective eye wear as needed to maintain 20/30 binocular vision, a vision test is required. StarGuard Elite Lifeguard Certification (including First Aid and infant, child, and adult CPR). Have knowledge of water safety practices and usage of water safety equipment. Work Environment: The position requires standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and seeing; flexibility in work schedule which includes days, nights, and weekends; is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions which may include varying weather conditions, and is subject to chlorinated water.
