Early Childhood Teacher Assistant Apprentice

Department: Early Childhood Education
Reports To: Lead Teacher / Center Director
Status:  Apprenticeship


Position Summary

This position provides paid, hands-on learning in a licensed early childhood program while completing related college coursework toward an Early Childhood Education certificate or degree.


The apprentice works under the supervision of qualified teachers to provide a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children while progressing through apprenticeship competencies and academic requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist lead teachers with implementing daily classroom activities. 
  • Support children's cognitive, physical, social-emotional, and language development. 
  • Build positive relationships with children and families. 
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and engaging classroom environment. 
  • Assist with classroom setup, organization, cleaning, and sanitation. 
  • Supervise  children in classrooms, playgrounds, meal times, and transitions. 
  • Assist with meals, diapering, toileting, and hygiene according to licensing regulations. 
  • Observe and document children's development as directed. 
  • Participate in lesson preparation and classroom planning. 
  • Attend  staff meetings, trainings, and professional development. 
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, FERPA, and Colorado licensing requirements. 
  • Follow all Starpoint and SPIN policies and procedures. 

Requirements

  

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED. 
  • Must be currently enrolled in approved Early Childhood Education certificate or degree program.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all Colorado Early Childhood licensing requirements. 
  • Ability to pass required criminal background checks. 
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain upon hire. 
  • Ability to work effectively with children, families, and coworkers. 

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift up to 40 pounds. 
  • Sit on the floor and interact with children. 
  • Bend, kneel, squat, and reach throughout the workday. 
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability  to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team. 
  • Willingness  to learn and accept coaching. 
  • Positive attitude and commitment to child development.
