Piping Designer Level I

Purpose

You will provide piping design services to Worley and its customers, including technical support and coordination within the piping design team.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver piping design services that meet Worley, its customers', and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget.
  • Prepare and develop piping design deliverables in accordance with project requirements and company standards.
  • Perform piping design activities such as:
    • Developing 3D models, piping layouts, equipment arrangements, and piping isometrics.
    • Participating in relevant meetings, preparing progress updates, and following required checking procedures.
    • Ensuring the project scope is clearly understood and that design changes comply with project change management processes.
    • Supporting procurement, construction, and commissioning activities through preparation of design deliverables and resolution of field design issues.
  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, and other disciplines to ensure effective integration of piping design requirements.
  • If required, act as the Lead Piping Designer on specific projects.
  • If responsible for a team:
    • Outline project requirements, assign tasks, and supervise design progress.
    • Ensure deliverables meet Worley, customer, and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, on time and within budget.
  • Proactively resolve discrepancies between Worley and customer requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry standards, design practices, and technological developments related to piping design.
  • Assist and support junior designers as required.
  • Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including customers, engineering disciplines, procurement teams, construction personnel, and vendors.
  • Identify issues and problems, develop practical solutions, and seek assistance when required.


What You Will Bring

Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements

  • Strong technical and practical piping design skills with the ability to consistently deliver quality, accurate, and timely work.
  • Sound knowledge of the fundamentals of piping design and drafting practices.
  • Understanding of the basic requirements of related engineering disciplines.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient in piping design software, including:
    • AutoCAD Plant 3D
    • CADWorx
    • SmartPlant 3D (SP3D)
    • E3D/PDMS
    • Other industry-standard piping design applications
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Practical experience in piping design within the refining, petrochemical, oil and gas, or related industries.
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in piping design.
  • At least 1 to 3 years of experience supporting petrochemical and refining projects through design, execution, and construction phases.
  • On-site and/or refinery experience preferred.
  • Refinery experience preferred.
  • Oil and Gas experience preferred.

Additional Information

  • This role is based in the Long Beach, California Worley office and is not eligible for remote work.
  • May be required to travel to vendor facilities and project sites.
  • Salary Hourly Range: $31.07 - $45.69

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

Required

  • Associate degree, technical diploma, certificate in Drafting/Design Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

  • Additional certifications or training in piping design, CAD software, 3D modeling, or related technical disciplines.
  • Relevant coursework in engineering technology, design, project management, or supervisory development.
  • Bachelors Degree
  • 1 to 3 years of piping design experience in refinery, petrochemical, or oil & gas facilities.
  • Experience producing piping layouts, isometrics, plot plans, equipment arrangements, support details, and construction work packages.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Plant 3D, CADWorx, SmartPlant 3D (SP3D), or E3D/PDMS.
  • Familiarity with field verification, as-built documentation, and coordination with construction teams.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards, design practices, and multi-discipline project execution.
