Description

Location: Los Angeles, CA
Company: ForTech Solutions
Position Type: Full-Time

Pre-Sales Engineering | System Design | Technical Project Support

About the Role

ForTech Solutions is looking for an ambitious, technically strong, and highly resourceful AV Solutions Engineer to help turn client needs and ideas into well-designed, practical technology solutions.

This position serves as a key technical connection between our Sales, Design, Project Management, and Field teams.

You will work closely with Sales during the early stages of a project to help develop system concepts, select products, build Bills of Materials (BOMs), prepare sketches, validate technical solutions, and assist with proposal development.

Your involvement doesn't necessarily end when the project is sold. You will remain a technical resource throughout the project lifecycle, working alongside Project Managers, designers, programmers, technicians, and installers to answer technical questions, solve challenges, review installations, and help ensure the completed system delivers what was originally promised to the client.

We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys technology and figuring out how things work. Someone who is ambitious, creative, responsive, self-motivated, and comfortable taking ownership.

You may even be a little nerdy about technology — we consider that a good thing — but you also need the personality and communication skills to work effectively with clients, salespeople, designers, project managers, programmers, and field technicians.

This isn't simply a position for someone who understands products.

We want someone who understands how to turn technology into solutions.

What You Will Do

Sales & Pre-Sales Engineering

A major focus of this position will be working alongside our Sales team to develop technically sound, practical, and sellable solutions based on client needs, project requirements, budgets, and desired outcomes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with Sales to develop AV and integrated technology solutions
  • Translate client needs and project requirements into practical system concepts
  • Develop and review Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Research and select appropriate products and technologies
  • Verify product compatibility and system interoperability
  • Create preliminary system sketches, signal-flow concepts, equipment layouts, and other supporting documentation
  • Review architectural drawings, specifications, and project documents
  • Assist with proposal preparation and technical scope development
  • Identify missing scope, technical risks, or design conflicts before proposals are finalized
  • Help develop alternatives and value-engineered solutions when appropriate
  • Participate in client meetings, site walks, or sales presentations when technical expertise is beneficial
  • Help explain complex technology to clients in clear, understandable terms

System Design & Engineering Support

Serve as a day-to-day technical resource supporting our Design, Sales, and Project Management teams.

  • Review system designs for functionality, compatibility, completeness, and constructability
  • Assist with equipment specifications and engineering decisions
  • Verify interoperability between AV, networking, control, lighting, security, and other integrated systems
  • Assist with system drawings, sketches, rack concepts, infrastructure requirements, and technical documentation
  • Review project documentation to identify potential technical or installation challenges
  • Support design revisions as projects evolve
  • Help maintain consistency between what was sold, what was designed, and what will ultimately be installed

Project & Field Technical Support

Work alongside Project Managers, programmers, technicians, and installers as a technical resource throughout project execution.

  • Answer technical questions from PMs and field teams
  • Help troubleshoot system-level and product-related challenges
  • Review installations against the intended system design and project scope
  • Participate in project reviews and site visits when needed
  • Assist with technical coordination and problem-solving
  • Review system functionality and installation quality
  • Help identify potential deficiencies before they become client-facing issues
  • Support commissioning, punch-list, and project closeout efforts when technical assistance is required
  • Help ensure completed systems meet ForTech standards and the client's expectations and desired deliverables

This position is not intended to replace the Project Manager, designer, programmer, or Lead Technician.

The AV Solutions Engineer becomes a technical bridge between these teams, helping everyone work from the same design intent and technical understanding.

Product Research, R&D & Standards

Technology changes quickly. We want someone who enjoys keeping up with it — and who is naturally interested in understanding what's next.

You will:

  • Research new AV and integrated technology products
  • Evaluate new manufacturers, platforms, and solutions
  • Compare competing technologies and recommend appropriate applications
  • Test and evaluate products and system concepts when appropriate
  • Research solutions for unusual or technically challenging projects
  • Maintain awareness of emerging AV, networking, automation, AI, and smart-building technologies
  • Assist with developing and maintaining ForTech system standards and preferred product solutions
  • Share relevant technical knowledge with Sales, Design, PM, and Field teams
  • Help the company continuously improve how systems are designed and delivered
