Job Summary This is a split-caseload position combining the Juvenile Justice Program (JJP), the Multidisciplinary Assessment Team (MAT) Program, and, as needed, the Lifting Youth Up (LYU) Drop-In Center. Under the supervision of the MHS Clinical Supervisor, the Therapist splits time across two primary program assignments — JJP (approximately 2 days/week) and MAT (approximately 2+ days/week) — and fills in on LYU duties as needed to support department and agency coverage. This is a Monday–Friday position with standard availability of 8:00 AM–8:00 PM; after-hours coverage (8:00 PM–8:00 AM) and weekend coverage are handled through the after-hours supervisor rotation and are not part of this position's regular schedule. In the JJP role, and in collaboration with the Department of Mental Health (DMH) team within the juvenile hall setting, the Therapist delivers individual psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and case management to a caseload of youth involved in the juvenile justice system. In the MAT role, the Therapist conducts multidisciplinary assessments, mental health assessments, and delivers ongoing mental health services as needed. When assigned to LYU coverage, the Therapist provides on-site mental health services, including individual, group, and family therapy, to youth participating in Aviva's Lifting Youth Up Drop-In Center, and works in collaboration with MHS case managers, LYU case managers, and LYU youth partners. The Therapist is responsible for completing all required documentation across programs in compliance with agency policies, DMH, DCFS, COA, and County regulations. Essential Functions JJP Duties • Provide consistent individual psychotherapy to youth in juvenile hall, including crisis intervention as needed. • Maintain responsibility for an assigned caseload of JJP youth under licensed supervision. • Conduct initial and annual clinical assessments, including comprehensive client history, mental status examinations, and diagnostic impressions. • Attend and contribute to case conferences as needed. • Serve as a client advocate within the juvenile justice and mental health systems. • Coordinate access to emergency psychiatric support services. MAT Duties • Conduct MAT (Multidisciplinary Assessment Team) program assessments. • Perform mental health assessments. • Deliver ongoing mental health services as needed. • Provide clinical input related to diagnosis and behavioral functioning; assist in the development and recommendation of treatment plans. • Participate as an active member of multidisciplinary treatment teams. LYU Coverage Duties (as needed) • Provide on-site individual, group, and family therapy as therapeutically necessary, consistent with individuals’ treatment goals, while youth are participating in the LYU Drop-In Center. • Maintain an active caseload to meet service time expectations as assigned. • Provide case management, coordination of services, crisis intervention, referrals, and outreach services when needed. • Coordinate emergency psychiatric support services, when needed. • Provide trauma-informed care; participate in trauma-informed training as assigned. • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with LYU case managers and LYU youth partners. Shared Duties (all programs) • Complete and submit all clinical documentation and Case Record Reviews in compliance with agency, DMH, DCFS, COA, and County regulations (including, but not limited to, assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes). • Consistently meet agency service delivery and billing requirements across assigned programs. • Participate in weekly individual supervision (and group supervision if required); consult with supervisors as needed for clinically significant situations (e.g., suicidal ideation, suspected child abuse, or other crises). • Learn and implement Evidence-Based Practices (EBPs) with fidelity to their models. • Deliver case management services, including coordination of care, crisis intervention, referrals, and outreach, as needed. • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with intra-agency staff, County departments, schools, referring agencies, physicians, and community-based organizations. • Serve as a liaison and consultant to community partners, school personnel, parents, and other mental health providers to assess and address client and community needs. • Update Outlook calendars and appointments at minimum weekly. • Notify Clinical Supervisor, Director, or Assistant Vice President of the relevant program to ensure necessary action and coverage can be arranged when ill, on vacation, or in cases of emergency. • Schedule work time effectively to accomplish all tasks across assigned programs and be present for required meetings while meeting the needs of clients and the agency. • Demonstrate cultural responsiveness and sensitivity in all aspects of service delivery. • Actively engage in quality improvement initiatives and agency projects. Additional Duties: The Therapist may provide services to children, adolescents, or families outside of the primary program settings described above and may be assigned additional LYU coverage days, special projects, or other duties as assigned by the MHS Clinical Supervisor, MHS Director, or Assistant Vice President of Mental Health Services (AVP-MHS).QualificationsCompetency Requirements • Ability to speak, read, write and understand English • Ability to work effectively as a member of treatment teams • Ability to accurately assess and diagnose clients' mental status • Must demonstrate ability to utilize the most current version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual • Ability to promptly and thoroughly analyze and respond to a crisis situation • Ability to accurately and completely complete required paperwork in accordance with agency and County regulations • Knowledgeable of principles and practices of community mental health treatment, including interviewing, assessment, individual, family and group counseling • Knowledge of general psychiatric emergency intervention protocols, diagnosis and brief and long-term therapy methods • Must demonstrate knowledge of principles of child, adolescent, and adult psychology • Must demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills • Knowledgeable of the laws and regulations related to client's rights, best practices, voluntary or involuntary inpatient hospitalization • Knowledge of community resources and agencies providing support services for the mentally ill or disabled • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills • Must have excellent time management skills; ability to manage multiple program assignments and shifting priorities with flexibility and minimal supervision • Ability to function comfortably in a team environment or independently across multiple program sites • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred Education and Experience • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology or Marriage and Family Therapy • Post graduate clinical experience preferred • Previous experience providing in-home or on-site therapeutic services preferred (residential or unstable housing settings a plus) Certifications/Licenses • Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LCSW, LMFT or LPCC) by the Board of Behavioral Sciences preferred • OR Registered with BBS as an Associate Social Worker, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist or Associate Professional Clinical Counselor • Certification or training in select Evidence-based Practices preferred • Valid CA Driver's license • Valid automobile insurance Additional Requirements • Tuberculosis clearance • Department of Justice/Fingerprint clearance • Satisfactory completion of health screening • Proof of legal eligibility to work in the United States • Satisfactory driving record Delegates Authority To N/A Physical Demands While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, drive and use his/her fingers to manipulate a keyboard or writing instrument.
