The Transportation Instructor/Trainer is responsible for all training and evaluation of new and continued bus drivers, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and maintaining a safe, efficient transportation operation system. This role may also include training activities, supervising junior driver employees, and directly supporting US Army transportation operations on Fort Sill.


Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct classroom, behind-the-wheel, and in-service training for new and experienced bus drivers in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Train drivers in safe bus operation, maintenance, and special needs transportation (if applicable).
  • Develop and maintain bus safety, accident prevention, and investigation programs; prepare reports and maintain training records.
  • Oversee bus driver licensing, certifications, and compliance with DMV, DoT, and US Army government regulations.
  • Ensure training schedules and coverage meet mission needs.
  • Coordinate with transportation supervisors, and transportation department manager for enhanced and specific safety protocols.
  • Assist in accident investigations and incident reporting.
  • Conduct safety drills, evacuation procedures, and general bus inspections.
  • Planning, coordinating and execution of all training to include rolling inventory of recorded on-the-job training.
  • Monitors and reports on bus driver issues (licensing, safety concerns, medical certification) ensuring corrective action and retraining are executed effectively.
  • Maintains accuracy, and retention per policy, applicable regulatory guidelines, and contractual requirements.
  • Managing dispatch logs and movement documentation; ensure completeness alongside dispatchers and transportation schedulers, under the supervision of TMP operation supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Three to four (3-4) years’ experience in bus driver training or related transportation roles; prior training experience required.
  • Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
  • Ability to receive a favorable TIER-1 investigation result, obtain and maintain a CAC.
  • Applicant must possess a REAL ID-compliant, state-issued driver’s license. 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Transportation and bus driver experience preferred.
  • CDE ELDT Instructor Certificate, current class B (or higher) with S and P endorsements preferred. 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Lifting and Carrying: Frequently lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying heavy objects, sometimes up to 40 pounds.
  • Mobility and Balance: Extensive walking (up to 10 kilometers a day), climbing up/down, bending, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Strength and Endurance: Using muscles for long periods, including working in cramped or awkward spaces.
  • Environmental Factors: Working in extreme hot or cold temperatures, in all weather conditions, and with exposure to loud noise or vibration.
  • Safety and Sensory Needs: Must possess good, sometimes aided, vision (including color distinction) and hearing, as well as the ability to climb on and off moving or stationary equipment. 

This position is contingent upon contract award and funding. Applicants selected may be hiredoffered but cannot begin work until funding has been confirmed
