The City of Madison, SD is seeking a dependable and motivated full-time Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Streets, Parks, Solid Waste, & Recycling team. This position plays an important role in maintaining the infrastructure, streets, public spaces, and services that keep our community running every day.
This role involves a variety of hands-on work, including operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders, motor graders, dump trucks, rollers, street sweepers, refuse collection trucks, and other specialized equipment. The Heavy Equipment Operator assists with street repairs, snow removal, storm cleanup, solid waste and recycling operations, sign installation and repair, tree and right-of-way maintenance, and other projects that support the City's infrastructure and services.
Work is performed primarily outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and environments. This position requires the use of heavy equipment, vehicles, hand and power tools, and protective equipment, along with the ability to perform physically demanding tasks. The Heavy Equipment Operator may be called upon to respond to after-hours emergencies and may work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
