Electrical Technician Job Description

Cooper's Houston is seeking a skilled and dependable Electrical Technician – Industrial Maintenance to join our manufacturing operations in Humble, Texas.

This is an immediate hiring opportunity for a hands-on electrical maintenance professional with experience in industrial electrical maintenance, electrical troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, electrical systems, power generators, electrical distribution, production equipment, and industrial manufacturing environments.

The Electrical Technician will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving electrical systems and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. The position plays an important role in minimizing unplanned downtime, protecting critical equipment, and supporting uninterrupted manufacturing production.

Key Responsibilities

Industrial Electrical Maintenance

  • Perform preventive electrical maintenance on industrial machinery, production equipment, electrical systems, and critical plant assets.
  • Complete scheduled electrical maintenance work orders to prevent unexpected equipment failures and production downtime.
  • Perform corrective electrical maintenance, repairs, testing, and troubleshooting on critical electrical equipment.
  • Diagnose electrical failures, identify faults, and restore equipment functionality safely and efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems involving industrial machinery, production equipment, electrical controls, motors, power systems, and related components.
  • Execute electrical improvement and safety work orders designed to improve equipment reliability and reduce workplace hazards.
  • Inspect electrical equipment and identify potential failures, unsafe conditions, or maintenance requirements.
  • Recommend Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) when electrical failures or hazardous energy conditions create a risk to personnel.
  • Identify and recommend required electrical spare parts, components, tools, and replacement materials to maintain reliable equipment operation.
  • Support equipment reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Respond to electrical breakdowns and maintenance requests while minimizing production downtime.

Power Systems & Generators

  • Operate, monitor, inspect, and troubleshoot industrial power generators.
  • Monitor generator performance and electrical parameters during power outages and emergency operating conditions.
  • Troubleshoot generator and electrical distribution issues to help protect critical production equipment.
  • Ensure electrical systems and equipment operate within established voltage, current, frequency, and other defined operating parameters.
  • Perform inspections and basic maintenance activities on electrical power systems and generator equipment as required.
  • Respond appropriately to electrical power interruptions and equipment failures to support production continuity.

Electrical Troubleshooting & Diagnostics

  • Perform systematic electrical fault diagnosis and troubleshooting.
  • Identify electrical failures and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Use electrical testing and measurement equipment safely and effectively.
  • Troubleshoot industrial electrical systems and components to identify the source of equipment problems.
  • Communicate electrical equipment conditions and repair requirements to maintenance and production personnel.
  • Support root cause analysis of recurring electrical failures and recommend corrective actions.

Maintenance Systems & Reporting

  • Create, document, update, and close electrical maintenance work orders in the company's maintenance management system.
  • Use SAP Maintenance / SAP PM or similar computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) when applicable.
  • Document electrical repairs, preventive maintenance activities, equipment failures, parts used, and technical findings.
  • Maintain accurate equipment maintenance history and technical records.
  • Report electrical failures, breakdowns, interventions, safety concerns, and significant findings to the Electrical Maintenance Coordinator.
  • Communicate shift activities and unresolved electrical maintenance issues to the appropriate maintenance and production personnel.

Electrical Safety & Compliance

  • Perform all electrical maintenance activities in strict compliance with company safety procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Follow proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hazardous energy control, electrical safety, confined space, hot work, and work-at-heights procedures when applicable.
  • Identify electrical hazards and conduct appropriate risk assessments before beginning maintenance work.
  • Use required PPE and electrical safety equipment.
  • Follow established procedures when working around energized or potentially energized equipment.
  • Stop work and report unsafe electrical conditions when necessary.
  • Maintain a strong safety-first mindset during all maintenance activities.
  • Comply with applicable company quality, environmental, occupational health, safety, and security requirements.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Technical degree, certificate, or formal training in Industrial Electrical Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Electromechanics, Industrial Electricity, or a related electrical field preferred/required.
  • Proven hands-on experience performing electrical maintenance in industrial or manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience with preventive and corrective electrical maintenance.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and fault-diagnosis skills.
  • Experience working with industrial electrical systems and critical production equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical failures and safely restore equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of industrial electrical maintenance procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety and hazardous energy control procedures.
  • Familiarity with LOTO / Lockout Tagout, confined spaces, work at heights, and other industrial safety procedures.
  • Experience with maintenance management systems such as SAP or similar CMMS software is preferred.
  • Equivalent hands-on industrial electrical maintenance experience will be considered.
