Warehouse Associate

Position Summary
Imperial Industrial Supply is seeking a dependable and versatile Warehouse Associate to support daily warehouse and distribution operations. This is a cross-functional position responsible for performing a variety of warehouse duties, including order picking, packing, shipping preparation, receiving, inventory handling, material movement, and forklift operation.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in multiple areas of the warehouse and can transition between responsibilities based on daily operational needs. This position requires attention to detail, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Picking and Order Fulfillment
- Accurately pick merchandise and products according to customer orders, pick tickets, or system-generated instructions.
- Verify item numbers, descriptions, quantities, and other order information before completing picks.
- Transport picked merchandise to designated packing or staging areas.
- Identify and report inventory discrepancies, damaged merchandise, or incorrect product locations.
- Maintain accuracy and productivity while meeting established warehouse expectations.
- Assist with replenishment of picking locations as needed.
Packing and Shipping Preparation
- Inspect picked merchandise for accuracy, condition, and completeness before packing.
- Select appropriate cartons, packaging materials, and shipping supplies.
- Pack merchandise securely to minimize the risk of damage during transportation.
- Verify orders against packing slips and shipping documentation.
- Apply labels and prepare completed shipments for carrier pickup or loading.
- Stage completed orders in designated shipping areas.
- Assist with loading outbound shipments when required.
Receiving and Inventory
- Receive incoming merchandise, supplies, and freight deliveries.
- Unload trucks and containers manually or with appropriate material-handling equipment.
- Verify incoming merchandise against purchase orders, packing slips, bills of lading, or other receiving documentation.
- Inspect incoming products for shortages, overages, visible damage, or other discrepancies.
- Accurately document received quantities and report discrepancies to management.
- Label, organize, and place received merchandise in designated inventory locations.
- Assist with inventory counts, cycle counts, stock rotation, and inventory organization.
- Maintain accurate product locations and assist with correcting inventory discrepancies.
Forklift and Material Handling
- Safely operate forklifts and other approved warehouse equipment to move, load, unload, stage, and store merchandise.
- Move pallets and products between receiving, storage, picking, packing, and shipping areas.
- Load and unload trucks as assigned.
- Perform required pre-use equipment inspections and promptly report equipment concerns or safety issues.
- Follow all company safety procedures and equipment operating requirements.
- Maintain awareness of pedestrians, equipment, merchandise, and surrounding conditions while operating powered equipment.
- Operate forklifts only when properly trained and authorized by the Company.
General Warehouse Responsibilities
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
- Assist in multiple warehouse departments based on workload and operational needs.
- Properly handle merchandise to prevent product damage.
- Follow established warehouse procedures, safety rules, and company policies.
- Promptly report unsafe conditions, damaged products, equipment issues, or workplace incidents.
- Assist coworkers and supervisors with warehouse projects and operational needs.
- Perform general housekeeping duties, including removing debris, organizing work areas, and maintaining clear aisles and walkways.
- Participate in warehouse meetings, training, and safety programs.
- Perform other related warehouse duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous warehouse, distribution, shipping, receiving, picking, or packing experience preferred.
- Previous forklift experience preferred.
- Ability to safely operate warehouse equipment following required training and authorization.
- Ability to accurately read product numbers, labels, packing slips, purchase orders, and other warehouse documentation.
- Basic math and counting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to order accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities and transition between warehouse functions as operational needs change.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a warehouse team.
Physical Requirements
The physical requirements listed below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Regularly stand and walk for extended periods during the workday.
- Frequently bend, reach, stoop, squat, push, pull, and grasp merchandise and equipment.
- Regularly lift, carry, move, and position warehouse merchandise.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to [50] pounds independently and heavier merchandise with assistance or appropriate equipment.
- Ability to safely climb on and off approved warehouse equipment.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements associated with picking, packing, receiving, and material handling.
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment where temperatures, noise levels, dust, and other environmental conditions may vary.
Work Environment
This position primarily works in a warehouse and distribution environment. The employee may work around forklifts, pallet jacks, trucks, loading areas, warehouse racking, moving equipment, and varying inventory loads. Employees are expected to follow all applicable safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment.
Safety Responsibilities
Safety is an essential responsibility of this position. The Warehouse Associate is expected to:
- Follow all Company safety policies and procedures.
- Use required personal protective equipment.
- Operate equipment only when properly trained and authorized.
- Immediately report workplace injuries, accidents, unsafe conditions, and equipment concerns.
- Follow proper lifting and material-handling practices.
- Maintain clear aisles, exits, emergency equipment access, and work areas.
