JOB SUMMARY

The UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper courier is responsible for the timely, safe, appropriate, and confidential transfer of laboratory specimens, interoffice correspondence, x-rays, surgical instruments, pharmaceuticals, medical records, materials and supplies, and all other transport needs between UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper sites as well as other locations. The courier is also responsible for the timely and consistent delivery of on-demand runs outside of UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper as determined by supply chain management which is within the scope of the healthcare mission of the organization.Some of the major job functions include but are not limited to:Delivers documents, packages, and other items to locations by performing the following duties.Travels to delivery sites using a UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper vehicle.Keeps log of items received and delivered.Obtains receipts or payment for articles delivered.Performs pick-up and delivery of jobs by accurately following a map and/or written instructions.Services vehicle driven, such as checking fluid levels and replenishing fuel. Schedules vehicle maintenance.Responsible for maintaining compliance with state and company standards by operating vehicle in a safe and lawful manner and following company guidelines in the event of an accident and/or injury.Responds to customer requests, ensuring the accuracy of the order taken and delivery of the completed orders in a timely manner.Completes all paperwork in a timely, accurate and legible manner.Processes out-going mail/packages/interoffice mail.Follows service excellence performance requirements.Performs other functions as requested by supply chain leadership.Maintains annual safety and infection control in-services in addition to educational hours to meet requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience:

1 year of experience in electronic communication devices and experience in team environment preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure:

Valid state driver's license and driving record that meets UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper standards required.

Additional Skills/Requirements Required:

Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Basic computer skills. Excellent customer service skills. Must have ability to drive courier vehicles and transport goods.

  • Communications: Interacts with external and internal customers in a positive and diplomatic manner.
    • Possesses good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Provides excellent customer service relating to supply chain functions and any special customer inquiries.
  • Teamwork: Acts as a liaison to all departments which require the services of Supply Chain Operations.
    • Acts as a department liaison for customer service, providing assistance with resolving customer inquiries and troubleshooting product requisitions, purchase orders, and billing, as appropriate.
    • Conducts product research and sourcing.
    • Handles vendor backorders, product returns and recalls, and communicates product information and changes.
  • Compliance: Ensures compliance to all department, hospital, Corporate, and Joint Commission policies/recommendations.
    • Ensures compliance in market facilities through education and guidance from Supply Chain leaders.
    • Maintains competency according to departmental policies, procedures, protocols, and mandatory education requirements.
  • Administrative Support: Ensures accurate management of product inventory for the facility.
    • Counts and replenishes inventory using available technology.
    • Assists with inventory management by stocking shelves, rotating stock, cycle counts, and physical inventory.
    • Cleans, prepares, and replenishes specialty carts, kits, and equipment, if applicable.
    • Receives all incoming freight from UPS, FedEx, and other common carriers.
    • Prepares and ships outgoing freight.
    • Uses computer systems, including handhelds, within Supply Chain Operations.

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical Demand Code:

Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment.
