Marshalltown Hospital 

Full Time; 3 - 12 Hour Shifts Per Week; 0:645A-7:15P, every third weekend and holiday rotation

 

As a member of our interdisciplinary team, promotes a positive image of UnityPoint Health. Provides Advanced Life Support level skills within the scope of practice. Care is provided in conjunction with, and under the direction of the nurse and/ or physician in the hospital setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced patient care in the Emergency Department, supporting both routine and critical care situations.

  • Assist with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) interventions and emergency response procedures.

  • Perform patient assessments including triage, collecting medical history, and evaluating physical and psychosocial needs.

  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and advanced pharmacological treatments within scope of practice.

  • Support advanced procedures including airway management, ventilator support, and trauma care.

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to implement and adjust patient care plans.

  • Document patient care and treatments accurately in the electronic health record.

  • Provide education to patients and families regarding treatments, procedures, and discharge instructions.

  • Support team development by mentoring new staff, assisting with training, and participating in professional growth opportunities.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Completion of an accredited Paramedic Program with a Critical Care Paramedic Endorsement through the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH)
  • Minimum of three years’ experience on a paramedic ground ambulance service or related experience.
  • Possess a current a Paramedic license in the State of Iowa with a Critical Care Paramedic Endorsement.

Preferred:

  • Three to five years’ experience on a paramedic ground ambulance service or related experience.
