MITRE is seeking interns to support modeling, simulation, analysis, software engineering, and operations research efforts across public interest and national mission domains. Our teams apply interdisciplinary expertise in areas such as software development, data analysis, complex systems modeling, operational analysis, visualization, and rapid prototyping to help sponsors better understand complex problems and evaluate potential solutions. Interns will work alongside technical staff and domain experts in collaborative research, experimentation, and demonstration environments.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to modeling, simulation, and analysis efforts in support of complex technical and operational challenges
  • Support software development for real-time simulation applications, immersive environments, analytics tools, or other prototype capabilities
  • Apply knowledge in data science, mathematics, statistics, operations research, geospatial science, economics, computer science, or related disciplines to real-world problems
  • Assist with data analysis, systems modeling, operational analysis, computational analytics, and visualization
  • Develop prototypes, visualizations, interfaces, or other technical solutions to support experiments and decision-making
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams that may include software engineers, data scientists, experiment designers, domain experts, and other technical staff
  • Present findings, prototypes, or technical work products to teammates and stakeholders

Basic Qualifications:

  • Sustained excellence in academic performance
  • Must be a student enrolled full-time in an accredited degree-seeking program
  • Must continue to be enrolled full-time in the semester following the internship
  • Degree program should be in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Math, Statistics, Operations Research, Geospatial Science, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Computational Social Science, or a related discipline

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience applying technical, analytical, or quantitative concepts in an internship, research, or lab setting
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, analysis, optimization, statistics, machine learning, or visualization
  • Proficiency with one or more modern programming languages or technical tools such as Python, Java, C++, R, MATLAB, SAS, or similar platforms
  • Experience manipulating datasets and developing visualizations or analytical outputs
  • Experience with software development, full stack development, DevOps concepts, or simulation development environments
  • Exposure to complex systems modeling, geospatial analytics, economic modeling, or operational analysis
  • Demonstrated interest in serving the public
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$46,500 - $58,000 - $69,500 Annual
