This position reports to the Employee Communications manager for Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector, and is located on-site in McLean, VA.
In this job, you’ll:
- Support and help lead efforts to inform and inspire employees and drive business priorities within Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector and selected functional organizations.
- Serve as a primary employee communications partner for assigned functions, providing strategic counsel and account management to functional leaders and their teams.
- Provide executive communications support for functional leaders, including drafting talking points, speeches, presentations, video scripts, employee announcements and executive summaries.
- Lead and coordinate functional organization announcements, ensuring alignment with the sector’s organization announcement process and best practices.
- Work closely with the enterprise team on functional communications by sharing sector insights to shape enterprise plans and executing enterprise functional campaigns, adapting them as needed.
- Write, draft, edit and help facilitate the design of internal materials, employee feature stories and other engaging content.
- Serve as the employee communications representative on cross‑enterprise connected storytelling efforts, proactively sourcing and packaging stories from Defense Systems and business communicators to support our internal storytelling strategy.
- Conceptualize, procure and produce a diverse array of inspirational content about our people, technologies, successes and business capabilities, including articles, videos, interviews, Q&As, infographics and photo/caption features.
- Own and maintain the editorial tracker, coordinating with sector and business communicators to ensure a connected, strategic flow of stories across channels.
- Maintain and continuously improve functional internal communications tools, including intranet content, organization charts and distribution lists, ensuring they are accurate, current and aligned to sector and enterprise standards.
- Support tracking and reporting of key communications metrics across channels (including digital signage, intranet and newsletters), developing regular summaries that highlight trends, insights and recommendations.
- Partner with sector employee communications and enterprise teams to use these insights to refine tactics, channels and approaches.
- Provide regular reporting and analysis of internal communications performance to functional and sector stakeholders, partnering with sector and enterprise employee communications teams to refine tactics, channels and approaches based on data and insights.
- Assist in the planning and execution of internal engagements, including webcasts, town halls, leadership calls, site visits and other leadership events, in partnership with sector and functional teams.
- Develop, execute and continuously refine the sector digital signage strategy and process, ensuring content is in-brand, timely and aligned to sector, functional and enterprise communications objectives.
- Interface with digital signage uploaders across sites to drive consistency and quality, and each week develop and distribute an in‑brand digital signage content package (incorporating enterprise and cross‑sector content) for use across all DS digital signage locations.
- Support maintenance and optimization of internal communications tools, including intranet content and other owned channels, ensuring they are timely, relevant and user‑friendly.
- Provide regular support to sector coordination and production efforts, including posting, maintenance and distribution related to sector channels.
- Be available to surge, back up and support the Sector Channels Owner and division/function employee communicators on message preparation and distribution during peak periods or special initiatives.
- Ensure all communications plans and tactics are consistent with the company’s strategic vision and reflect the Northrop Grumman brand.
- Work closely with Communications and functional partners across the sector and corporation to align messages, share best practices and support integrated communications efforts.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university with five (5) plus years of experience successfully developing and deploying communications practices or three (3) plus years of communications experience with Master-level degree from accredited university. An additional four years of experience can be considered in lieu of degree.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
- Possess a high level of integrity when handling sensitive and confidential information
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong judgement, problem solving and organizational skills, and superb attention to detail.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with successful email campaigns and newsletter creation.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Affinity for developing solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity.
