JOB TITLE:                        CNC Operator                

 

DEPARTMENT:                  Production 

 

REPORTS TO:                   Production Manager

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  Operates computer numerical control (CNC) machines to produce quality machined parts in accordance with blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, and production requirements. Performs machine setup, tool changes, inspections, minor adjustments, and production documentation while maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency standards.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Operate CNC machines safely and efficiently. 
  • Load raw materials and unload finished parts. 
  • Perform machine setup, tool changes, and basic offsets as required. 
  • Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments to verify compliance with specifications and quality standards. 
  • Monitor machine performance and make minor adjustments as needed. 
  • Identify and report machine malfunctions, tooling concerns, or production issues. 
  • Enter production data and review work orders as required. 
  • Keep work area clean and organized and follow all workplace safety procedures and PPE requirements. 
  • Other tasks as assigned by management. 

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS

  • High school diploma or GED preferred. 
  •  Previous experience operating CNC mills, lathes, or machining centers. 
  •  Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions. 
  •  Basic understanding of G-code and CNC machine functions. 
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and bore gauges.  
  • Ability to perform machine setup, tool changes, and basic offsets as required. 
  •  Knowledge of machining practices, tooling, feeds, speeds, and materials.
  • Ability to inspect parts and verify compliance with specifications and quality standards. 
  •  Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts. 
  • Ability to identify and report machine malfunctions or production issues. 
  • Basic computer skills for entering production data and reviewing work orders. 
  • Understanding of workplace safety procedures and PPE requirements. 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Reliable attendance and ability to work overtime when required. 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical school training or CNC certification. 
  • Experience with Fanuc, Haas, or other CNC controls.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None           

 

This position does require Safety Glasses and Safety Shoes for personal protective equipment.  Must check and use posted PPE for specific task – posted in job area.
