About the Role

Christ Community Health Services is seeking a welcoming, dependable Registration Representative to serve as a first point of contact for patients and support access to care for diverse and underserved populations.

This role manages patient check-in and check-out, registration, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, payment collection, and demographic and financial information, including sliding fee discount eligibility. The Registration Representative maintains accurate information in the electronic health record and supports efficient clinic flow while protecting patient privacy.

What You'll Do

  • Greet and check in patients in a courteous, professional, and culturally responsive manner.
  • Register new patients and update existing records with accurate demographic, insurance, income, and contact information in the electronic health record.
  • Verify insurance coverage and determine eligibility for the sliding fee discount program in accordance with HRSA requirements.
  • Collect copayments, account balances, and other patient payments; issue receipts and maintain accurate cash-handling records.
  • Complete end-of-day reports, count collected funds, and reconcile the cash drawer at the close of each business day.
  • Schedule, confirm, reschedule, and cancel appointments while supporting patient access and efficient provider schedules.
  • Complete patient check-out, including scheduling follow-up appointments, providing visit summaries, and coordinating referrals as directed.
  • Safeguard patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements and organizational privacy policies.
  • Use interpreter services and communication resources to assist patients with limited English proficiency.
  • Respond professionally to questions regarding services, clinic policies, billing, appointments, and other general information.
  • Scan, upload, and manage patient documents in the electronic health record accurately and promptly.
  • Monitor patient wait times and escalate concerns to the appropriate team member to support a positive patient experience.
  • Support care coordination by relaying complete and accurate messages to clinical teams.
  • Make reminder calls for upcoming patient appointments.
  • Participate in quality-improvement efforts focused on patient satisfaction, reduced no-show rates, and improved access to care.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, secure, and welcoming front-desk environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two to four years of clerical experience, preferably in a medical or healthcare setting.
  • Medical Billing and Coding Certificate or Medical Assistant credential preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered service to diverse and underserved populations.
  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills, with the ability to explain information clearly, professionally, and empathetically.
  • Cultural awareness and a commitment to health equity.
  • Understanding of medical, dental, and behavioral health scheduling workflows, terminology, and care coordination processes.
  • Experience using electronic health records, practice-management systems, or call-center platforms with accurate data-entry skills.
  • Strong attention to detail when documenting patient information and verifying program or insurance eligibility.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, patient privacy, Medicaid, Medicare, commercial insurance, and sliding fee discount programs.

Work Environment

This position operates in a clinic setting and involves regular interaction with patients, family members, clinical staff, and administrative team members. The role may involve exposure to infectious or contagious illnesses.

The position requires sitting for approximately 70% of the workday, standing for approximately 15%, and walking for approximately 15%. The employee may occasionally lift, push, or pull boxes or other items weighing up to 15 pounds.

The role requires frequent use of computers, telephones, office equipment, payment-processing equipment, and cash-management systems. Local work-related travel may account for approximately 15% of the position, depending on clinic assignment and operational needs. Specific responsibilities may vary somewhat by location.
