Summary:

The Security Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all security operations within the facility to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to respond effectively to situations involving individuals experiencing mental health crises. The Security Supervisor plays a vital role in maintaining safety while supporting the organization’s therapeutic and compassionate care environment. The Security Supervisor also supports facility/maintenance operations by coordinating with the Facilities team on basic maintenance, safety preparedness, and emergency response activities.


Education Requirement:

High school diploma or GED required.

Associate or bachelor's degree in criminal justice, security management, or related field preferred.

 

Experience Requirement:

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of security experience, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, or psychiatric facility settings strongly preferred.


Licensure/Certification Requirement:

  • Valid state security license (if applicable).
  • Valid driver's license.
  • No criminal Record.
  • First Aid/CPR certification required.

 

Key Job Responsibilities:


Supervision & Leadership

Supervise, schedule, and evaluate security personnel to ensure effective coverage of all shifts and facility areas.

Provide leadership, coaching, and ongoing training to security staff in crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and patient-centered approaches.

Conduct regular team briefings and performance reviews.

 

Safety & Security Operations

Monitor security systems, patrol facility grounds, and respond to incidents promptly and professionally.

Ensure adherence to security protocols, emergency procedures, and organizational policies.

Coordinate with clinical and administrative teams to support safe patient movement, admissions, and discharges.

Conduct investigations of security incidents, prepare detailed reports, and recommend corrective actions.


Incident Management

Lead responses to emergency situations such as patient elopement, physical altercations, or unauthorized entry.

 Use de-escalation and non-violent crisis intervention techniques in alignment with the facility’s care model.

Serve as a liaison between the organization and law enforcement or emergency responders as needed.

 

Training & Compliance

Train security staff on mental health awareness, trauma-informed care, and organizational safety standards.

Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, CARF, OSHA).

Participate in safety audits, emergency preparedness drills, and risk assessments.


Communication & Documentation

Maintain accurate and timely incident reports, daily activity logs, and other required documentation.

Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including clinicians, nursing staff, and administrators.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport in a therapeutic environment.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, de-escalation, and crisis management.
  • Ability to lead diverse teams and maintain professionalism under pressure.
  • Knowledge of security technology systems, access control, and surveillance monitoring.


Physical Demands/Conditions:

  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and occasional physical intervention may be necessary.
  • Exposure to emotionally charged or unpredictable situations in a behavioral health environment.
