Job Description

Overall Purpose and Objective of Position

Supervise and coordinate activities of workers concerned with receiving, storing, inventorying, weighing, sampling and shipping materials in warehouse or yard.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Plan layout of warehouse and storage area.

  • Advises employees: on care and preservation of items received, stored and shipped of methods and use of equipment on company policies and safety regulations on duty assignments, performance

  • Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules and expedite workflow.  Issue written and oral instructions.  Assigns duties, standardizes procedures to improve efficiency.

  • Review records for accuracy of information and compliance with established procedures.  Prepares composite reports from individual reports of subordinates.  Suggest changes to increase efficiency of department.

  • Confer with other supervisors to coordinate activities of departments.

  • Operate lift truck.

  • Maintains good working knowledge of SHE policies, rules and procedures applicable to area of responsibility and ensures all applicable requirements are adhered to.

  • Ensures employees are provided required training for area and jobs and tasks prior to assigning work.

  • Ensures area of responsibility is maintained in orderly and safe manner.

  • Promptly reports unsafe working conditions to management and communicates potential hazards to affected employees.

  • Promptly reports all incidents to management and conducts incident investigation as soon as practicable; no later than 24 hours from time of incident.

  • Perform all related responsibilities as required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)

  • One to three years related experience and/or training.  Or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, speak effectively before groups of supervisors or employees, and apply common sense and problem solving.

  • Computer skills, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

  • Job requirements include standing, walking, sitting, use of hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools or controls.  Must be able to reach with hands and arms; climb balance, stoop, kneel crouch and crawl.  Also have the ability to speak and hear.

  • Required to regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities are required.  These include good close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision.  Good depth perception and the ability to focus are necessary.

Working Conditions

Duties are performed in outside weather conditions, working frequently near moving mechanical parts.  Occasional work done in high, precarious places and could be exposed to fumes and cotton dust.

Accountable for the performance of employees supervised.

Maintain accurate records and comply with established procedures.
