Responsibilities

Position Overview

This position performs operational checks, servicing, handling, and repair of ground support equipment (GSE). The role requires working knowledge of fuel, hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and cryogenic systems, as well as gas and diesel internal combustion engines used on GSE. Work is performed in compliance with aircraft and ground safety procedures, using applicable maintenance/technical manuals, publications, special tools, and test equipment, while operating within the operational capabilities and limitations of electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul GSE and associated systems (electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and cryogenic), using applicable technical publications.
  • Maintain familiarity with COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series and other applicable Navy instructions, maintenance manuals, illustrated parts breakdowns, technical directives, manufacturer manuals, and company instructions.
  • Coordinate with Leadman, Supervisor, and Quality Control on serviceability questions and repair procedures.
  • Document all completed work and maintain maintenance records in accordance with COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series and other applicable instructions.
  • Assist other mechanics within the work center or division as needed, including during periods of increased workload.
  • Obtain and maintain "O" Level Support Equipment Wheel and Tire qualification/certification.
  • Perform Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative/Collateral Duty Inspector (CDQAR/CDI) inspections as required.
  • Perform SAA Accumulation/Point Source Coordinator duties when authorized and designated.
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled inventories as required.
  • Perform off-site service and training as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) locations and applicable safety precautions.
  • Wear a respirator when required for assigned duties.
  • Uphold the highest ethical, personal, and professional standards.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties and support additional projects/initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Satisfactory completion of a U.S. Armed Forces Aviation Ground Support Equipment Maintenance School, or an equivalent curriculum.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of "I" Level experience as a Support Equipment Hydraulic/Mechanical/Cryogenic/Electrical Mechanic, including corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention.

Certifications, Licensing & Clearances

  • Valid state driver's license.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) CAC (Commons Access Card)
  • Support Equipment (SE) License, obtained and maintained
  • Certifications/licensing as required by the Program Training and Certification Manual and the COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series.
  • Personal tools and toolbox must be established within 30 days of hire or job assignment.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to pass periodic medical surveillance evaluations, which may include respirator fit testing.
  • Availability to work weekends, alternate shifts, and overtime as required.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb, stand, stoop, bend, push, kneel, and stretch.
  • Ability to perform extensive walking and work in tiring or uncomfortable positions.
  • Ability to lift objects up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • May be required to conduct training for others.
  • Specific physical requirements will be reviewed with applicants during the interview.

Working Environment

  • Conditions range from a standard, climate-controlled environment to non-climate-controlled and outdoor settings, including exposure to inclement weather (temperature extremes, wind, rain, etc.).
  • May involve work in areas with high noise levels.
  • May involve exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or electrical shock hazards.
