THEIR FUTURE. The Cook I assists with the preparation and presentation of quality food and beverages for our students while helping maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment. You may also have the opportunity to supervise, train, and mentor Job Corps Work-Based Learning students, helping young adults develop valuable workplace skills and professional habits. WHAT YOU’LL DO As a member of our Food Services team, you will: Assist with the preparation and presentation of quality meals for students.  Provide excellent customer service while positively engaging with young adults.  Help maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen, including washing dishes and cleaning and sanitizing food preparation and service areas. Transport prepared meals to the serving line and keep serving counters stocked. Complete assignments thoroughly, accurately, and on time while maintaining strong attendance, accountability, and productivity. Plan, prioritize, and organize assignments to meet established goals and deadlines. Mentor and model Career Success Standards for students. Provide appropriate supervision, guidance, and positive reinforcement to students while holding them accountable for their actions and behavior. Support Work-Based Learning opportunities by helping students develop workplace skills and professional behaviors. Partner with employees across departments to ensure students receive quality supervision and services. Communicate clearly and professionally with students, coworkers, leadership, and other stakeholders. Identify problems, evaluate possible solutions, take appropriate action, and follow up to ensure issues are resolved. Accept direction and assignments from Center leadership as operational needs require. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications WHAT YOU’LL NEED Required: High School Diploma or equivalent. Ability to obtain ServSafe credentials. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with and positively engage young adults. Commitment to maintaining high standards of food quality, cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and teamwork. Preferred: Degree or certification from an accredited or relevant culinary/food-service training program or school. Previous food-service experience. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This is an active position that may require sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, stooping, and crouching. Candidates must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and/or appropriately assess a load and request assistance when needed.
