The University of Miami/UHealth Laboratories Department has an exciting opportunity for Clinical Laboratory Assistant 3 to work in Miami, FL.

CORE JOB SUMMARY                                                                                                                                    

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant 3 performs a variety of routine duties in assisting technical and professional personnel in clinical and research laboratories. An incumbent in this position provides broad support for the laboratory operations.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                          

Identifies, handles, and accessions patient samples requiring laboratory testing. Transports specimens and communicates test results timely and accurately. Maintains required laboratory files and logs system in a neat and accurate manner. Performs specimen processing, such as centrifugation, aliquoting, and volume measurement. Maintains adequate inventory level as per protocol. Participates in the performance improvement processes for the department. Maintains assigned work area in a clean and orderly condition. Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations. Generates patient reports and forwards them to the proper departments/physicians. Investigates and responds to all inquiries related to referral testing; Answers all inquiries made by the Reference Lab and resolves problems associated with improper or inadequate samples. Provides responses to all inquiries made by physicians or patient unit personnel related to specimen requirements. Maintains adequate inventory levels as per protocol and rotates previous stock when it applies. Reviews packing slips, verifies number of items received, documents, and provides copies to supervisor/designee. Serves as a lead/Back-up when Supervisor is unavailable. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

Minimum 4 years of relevant experience

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

1. The Clinical Laboratory Assistant 3 is a professional with associate, bachelor or higher degree studies in Biology, Chemistry or Science related. With laboratory experience, research or clinical and some knowledge in laboratory informatics. 

This healthcare professional is a potential medical technologist who does not have the required license yet. By adding this support to our operations, the laboratory will benefit, not only with the extra hands, but financially.The main tasks that will be assigned to this position are:

- Guided by the area supervisor and/or the Director of operations will assist in overseen the implementation and validation of the new Inventory system.

  • Monitoring of workflows, data management, ordering process and reports between the main storage rooms and the different laboratory departments.
  • Integration and monitoring of the accessioning personnel into the inventory workflows.
  • Validation of processes

- Run multiple validations in the different laboratory areas,

  • Flow - BD Flow cytometry instruments (3)
    • TC Enumeration panel
    • Flow crossmatch
    • Flow PRA
    • Duraclone panels
  • Molecular – FastPlex NGS
  • Molecular - SureTyper HLA typing
  • Molecular – Care Dx Chimerism
  • Molecular – Care Dx NGS HLA typing
  • Molecular – Grifols -Infectious disease FDA approved Donors
  • Antibody & Molecular - Fusion software
  • Antibody – Eplex antibody panel
  • Serology – SARS IgG FDA approved kit

- Guided by the area Supervisor    

  • Orders cancellations
  • Instruments maintenance and documentation
  • Correlation of instruments
  • Instruments troubleshooting
  • Receive of crossmatches orders
  • Reagents inventory & ordering
  • Responds emails received from clients, coordinators, physicians. These emails requesting results/samples status are received and managed by medical technologists, supervisors of the different areas and directors.
  • Other activities as assigned by the Supervisor/Director of Operations.
