Travel required from that location)

Hours: Mon-Fri 8am-4:30pm (Flexibility needed for special projects and after hours work).

Rate: $22/hr

OVERVIEW OF PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Environmental Services Specialist is responsible for performing a broad range of exterior maintenance, deep cleaning, facility support, inspection, moving, and specialized cleaning services to maintain agency buildings, grounds, furnishings, and equipment in a safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained condition.

 

This position performs both routine and project-based work, including power washing, deck inspection and maintenance, high dusting, floor care, window cleaning, carpet cleaning, junk removal, basement inspections, furniture and equipment assembly, and moving activities. The position requires the ability to safely operate vehicles and trailers, use a variety of power and cleaning equipment, work at varying heights, lift and move materials, and perform physically demanding tasks.

 

The Environmental Services Specialist works both independently and as part of a team and is expected to identify maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and environmental concerns and communicate them to the appropriate supervisor. The employee is expected to demonstrate reliability, initiative, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.

This team may work on variable schedules to complete assignments outside normal business hours.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

Exterior Maintenance and Cleaning

  • Power wash exterior building surfaces, fences, decks, sheds, and other outdoor structures.
  • Power wash sidewalks, walkways, patios, and other exterior hard surfaces.
  • Inspect decks and outdoor structures for signs of deterioration, damage, water intrusion, or other maintenance concerns.
  • Perform deck waterproofing, sealing, and related surface protection activities as assigned.
  • Assist with seasonal exterior maintenance and facility preparation activities.
  • Identify exterior conditions that may present safety, maintenance, or environmental concerns and report findings to the supervisor.
  • Safely operate pressure washers and other exterior maintenance equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions and established safety procedures.

 

 

 

 

Deep Cleaning and Specialized Cleaning

  • Perform detailed and project-based deep cleaning throughout agency facilities.
  • Perform deep cleaning of bathrooms, including grout cleaning and removal of accumulated dirt, residue, and buildup.
  • Perform high dusting of ceilings, ledges, vents, light fixtures, and other elevated surfaces.
  • Clean and dust air vents, registers, grilles, and related surfaces.
  • Clean and detail baseboards, trim, doors, frames, and other hard-to-reach areas.
  • Wipe down and clean interior walls and other vertical surfaces as appropriate.
  • Clean and detail light fixtures.
  • Clean and wipe down ceiling fans.
  • Perform interior window cleaning.
  • Perform exterior window cleaning on ground-level windows.
  • Shampoo and extract carpeting using appropriate carpet-cleaning equipment and methods.
  • Strip, clean, and refinish floors, including waxing and other floor-care activities.
  • Perform junk removal and disposal activities in accordance with agency procedures.
  • Assist with facility cleanouts, special cleaning projects, and post-construction or renovation cleaning as assigned.
  • Properly use, store, and maintain cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment.

 

Support to Facilities and Safety Inspections

  • Conduct visual inspections of basements and other designated areas to identify clutter, unsafe conditions, blocked access, potential fire hazards, or other facility concerns.
  • Report identified hazards, damage, maintenance needs, or other deficiencies to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Assist with maintaining clear pathways, safe work areas, and orderly storage areas.
  • Identify conditions requiring repair or additional maintenance and communicate findings promptly.
  • Support facility readiness activities associated with inspections, events, projects, renovations, and seasonal changes.

 

Moving, Assembly, and Facility Support

  • Move furniture, equipment, supplies, materials, and other items weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly as required.
  • Assist with facility moves, relocations, room setups, cleanouts, and reconfigurations.
  • Assemble complex, non-medical equipment, furniture, shelving, and fixtures. 
  • Safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, carts, dollies, and other equipment necessary to perform assigned work.
  • Assist with deliveries, material handling, loading, unloading, and transportation of supplies and equipment.
  • Support renovation, construction, and facility improvement projects as directed.
  • Maintain work areas, tools, vehicles, and equipment in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.

 

Vehicle and Trailer Operation

  • Safely operate agency trucks, trailers, and other authorized vehicles to transport equipment, materials, furniture, debris, and supplies.
  • Safely connect, disconnect, load, unload, and maneuver trailers as required.
  • Perform routine vehicle and trailer inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Comply with all applicable traffic laws, agency vehicle policies, and safe-driving requirements.
  • Maintain required licensing and qualifications for assigned vehicles and equipment.

 

Safety and Compliance Responsibilities

  • Follow all agency safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow established procedures for the safe handling, use, storage, and disposal of cleaning chemicals and other materials.
  • Operate equipment only when properly trained and authorized.
  • Use appropriate lifting, carrying, and material-handling techniques.
  • Maintain awareness of slip, trip, fall, electrical, chemical, fire, and other workplace hazards.
  • Immediately report accidents, injuries, unsafe conditions, property damage, or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy and dignity of individuals served by the agency when working in occupied facilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Knowledge of commercial cleaning, deep cleaning, floor care, and exterior cleaning practices.
  • Ability to safely operate pressure washers, carpet extractors, floor machines, vacuums, and other facility-maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to perform detailed cleaning and physically demanding maintenance-support tasks.
  • Ability to inspect facilities and recognize potential safety, maintenance, fire, or environmental hazards.
  • Ability to assemble furniture, shelving, equipment, and other complex items using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to safely lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Ability to perform high-dusting and elevated cleaning activities safely.
  • Ability to operate trucks and trailers safely and responsibly.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize assignments, and complete tasks within established timelines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, vendors, and facility occupants.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety, and workmanship.
  • Able to transition between routine cleaning, specialized cleaning, exterior maintenance, inspections, moving, assembly, transportation, and other facility-support assignments based on operational priorities.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior experience in facilities maintenance, environmental services, commercial cleaning, construction support, property maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience operating pressure washers, floor-care equipment, carpet extractors, or similar equipment preferred.
  • Experience driving a truck and trailer preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record required, if operating agency vehicles.

 

 

 

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

The position is physically active and requires the employee to regularly:

  • Able to perform repetitive lifting and moving of items weighing up to 50 pounds and performing work that may require bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, and climbing ladders.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull equipment, furniture, supplies, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Operate powered cleaning and maintenance equipment.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Work in basements, mechanical/support areas, and other facility environments.
  • Perform elevated cleaning activities using appropriate equipment.
  • Work around cleaning chemicals, dust, dirt, debris, noise, and other environmental conditions associated with facility maintenance and cleaning activities.
