Cold End Forming Technician

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Cold End Forming Technician ensures the proper operation of drawing lines, cold end conveyors, and automated equipment to maximize production of quality tubing. The Cold End Forming Technician acts as a catalyst to transform drawn line tubing into repeatable, discrete tubes that meet customer dimensional and cosmetic requirements. This position works closely with Master Operators and Cold End Operators (CEOs) to train, coach, and enhance their skills, to improve cold end efficiencies.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE

  • Responsible for identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving issues with all cold end equipment.
  • Leads off shift job changes with an emphasis on managing and coaching the other operators involved.
  • Performs regular inspections of all cold end equipment and works closely with
  • maintenance personnel to resolve findings quickly or create work orders for findings that can wait for an outage.
  • Develop and document job setups to provide proper documentation that can be used to improve job change efficiency.
  • Assists with the start-up of the melter and cold end processes.
  • Analyze and take corrective action on glass problems, specifically in the cold end, to improve glass quality.
  • Acts as primary technical resource during off shifts.
  • Assists with meeting net pack standard of 75%.
  • Assists in identifying training needs and specific goals to develop knowledgeable and capable Cold End Operators (CEOs).
  • Acts as the primary coach and mentor of Master Operators.
  • Ensures predicted improvements are made, measured, completed, and linked to operating results.
  • Verifies all team members follow standard work consistently to ensure efficiency and quality in the process.
  • Follow the 4 C's outlined in the company policy - communication, commitment, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction.
  • Commit to the execution and evolution of continuous improvement and operational excellence objectives through process design, problem solving, knowledge sharing, and teaching others.
  • Leader of teams, coach, teacher, trainer, and consultant to their assigned employee team(s.)
  • Facilitates improvement implementation through deployment of the Nipro OPEX model and works to involve everyone in the pursuit of sustained beneficial change.
  • Focuses site teams on continuous improvement, by involving people in meeting productivity and site objectives.
  • Participates in Best Practice sharing, assures Kaizen Team Events are recorded.
  • Sustain implementation through learn-by-doing methods, and provide leadership, coaching, and training in OpEx processes to team members.
  • Supports site OpEx coordinators' continuous improvement interventions and employee teams.
  • Identifies opportunities to implement common processes and best practices.
  • Exemplifies all safety, health, and environment rules, company rules, regulations, and ISO procedures and work instructions.

WHAT YOU BRING TO NIPRO (SKILLS)

High School Diploma and some advanced technical training desired.

 

Experience:  5 – 7 years’ experience in glass manufacturing.

 

Specific Knowledge: Knowledge of trim and glaze conveyors, automated packaging machines, and forehearths (desired).

 

General Skills: Organizational and time management, mathematical and analytical skills, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite tools (i.e., Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
