Job Summary

The Senior Commissioning Specialist I (SCS1) serves as the highest technical field authority within the Commissioning Department. This position provides technical leadership for utility-scale Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), collection systems, associated substations, generator systems, thermal generation, and assigned data center commissioning activities. The SCS1 develops commissioning strategies, supports complex energizations, mentors technical staff, and ensures commissioning activities are executed safely and in accordance with project, utility, and company requirements.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for complex commissioning projects and multi-discipline teams.
  • Lead commissioning planning, system energization, and project turnover activities.
  • Review and provide final technical approval of Method of Procedure (MOP) documents and complex LOTO procedures.
  • Lead technical planning for switching, sequencing, and energization of substations and plant systems.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with owners, utilities, engineering, relay, SCADA, OEMs, and construction.
  • Support commissioning of utility-scale Solar PV, BESS, collection systems, associated substations, thermal generation facilities, and generator systems.
  • Provide technical guidance for LM6000 and similar peaker plant commissioning activities when assigned.
  • Support data center commissioning and transmission coordination activities as required.
  • Develop department standards, mentor commissioning personnel, and promote continuous improvement.
  • Travel as required and perform other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 8 years of electrical commissioning, testing, or startup experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of utility-scale Solar PV, BESS, substations, collection systems, and commissioning practices.
  • Working knowledge of thermal generation, generator commissioning, and plant startup.
  • Experience with switching procedures, energization planning, LOTO, and MOP development.
  • Working knowledge of data center commissioning and transmission coordination.
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, protection drawings, P&IDs, control schematics, and commissioning documentation.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, technical writing, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 100%.

Authority

  • Serve as the department's highest technical field authority.
  • Provide final technical review of MOPs, LOTO procedures, and commissioning plans.
  • Lead complex switching and energization activities within assigned authority.
  • Mentor and develop commissioning personnel.
  • Stop work whenever unsafe conditions or technical concerns exist.
