Job Summary

The Senior Commissioning Specialist II (SCS2) provides technical leadership for commissioning activities on utility-scale Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), collection systems, associated substations, and related electrical infrastructure. The position leads commissioning teams, coordinates with engineering, construction, relay, SCADA, owners, and vendors, and supports the safe energization and turnover of project facilities.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Lead commissioning activities for assigned systems and project scopes.
  • Promote and enforce OSHA, NFPA 70E, company safety requirements, and LOTO compliance.
  • Plan and lead commissioning walkdowns, equipment inspections, and functional testing.
  • Review commissioning documentation, reports, punch lists, and turnover packages.
  • Review and approve Method of Procedure (MOP) documents prepared by Commissioning Specialists.
  • Coordinate switching activities with utilities, owners, engineering, relay, and SCADA personnel.
  • Support commissioning of utility substations and associated collection systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to Commissioning Specialists and Apprentices.
  • Coordinate vendor testing, OEM activities, and owner witness testing.
  • Support data center commissioning activities and transmission coordination when assigned.
  • Travel as required and perform other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 6 years of electrical construction, testing, or commissioning experience.
  • Strong knowledge of utility-scale Solar PV, BESS, collection systems, and substations.
  • Experience with switching procedures, energization planning, and MOP development.
  • Working knowledge of data center commissioning and transmission coordination.
  • Ability to read one-line diagrams, schematics, protection drawings, and equipment documentation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel up to 100%.

Authority

  • Lead commissioning teams and assigned project scopes.
  • Review and approve CS3 MOPs.
  • Lead field implementation of LOTO procedures.
  • Coordinate switching activities within assigned authority.
  • Stop work for unsafe conditions or technical concerns.
