Responsibilities

Supports a safe, secure, and welcoming clinical environment across Infirmary Health (IH) facilities. Provides an enhanced level of public safety presence in high‑acuity healthcare settings where rapid response, sound judgment, and professional engagement are critical to protecting patients, visitors, staff, and organizational assets. Operates within complex clinical environments that require a balance of preparedness, composure, and service‑oriented interaction. The position is authorized to carry a firearm and approved defensive tools in accordance with hospital policy and state law and requires the ability to engage effectively with individuals experiencing crisis, trauma, or heightened emotional distress while reinforcing a culture of safety, dignity, and respect.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in one of the following:
    • Law enforcement
    • Military service (combat arms or military police preferred)
    • Armed healthcare security
  • Demonstrates written, interpersonal, and communication skills as appropriate to position
  • Working knowledge of security practices, situational assessment, and incident response within an active clinical environment
  • Ability to meet all firearm qualification and psychological screening requirements
  • Incumbents hired into or occupying an Armed Security Officer position on or before August 02, 2026, are not required to meet the minimum three (3) years of qualifying experience requirement to remain in their current role

Licensure, Registration, Certification:

  • Active unrestricted Class D U.S. Driver’s License
  • Authorization to carry a firearm through one of the following, as permitted by law and organizational policy:
    • Valid state firearm permit
    • Applicable law enforcement credential
    • Applicable military credential
  • Semiannual firearms qualification and requalification, as required by organizational policy
  • Psychological Screening, as required by organizational policy*
  • Basic Life Support (BLS; required within 90 days of placement into position)

*Certification listed above will be required within 180 days of placement into position

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public safety, healthcare, or a related field
  • Prior experience in a healthcare, behavioral health, or high‑acuity public environment
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing verbal de‑escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies
  • Familiarity with healthcare compliance standards, patient rights, and privacy expectations
  • Experience completing incident reports or documentation suitable for internal review and potential legal or regulatory follow‑up
  • Crisis Intervention / De‑escalation Training (CPI, MOAB, or equivalent)
  • IAHSS Basic Certification
  • Defensive Tactics Certification (CPI, MOAB, or equivalent)
  • Workplace Violence Prevention training (CPI, MOAB, or equivalent)
  • Taser certification
  • Body‑worn camera operation- certification
