Job Description : 

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Handles all mechanical repairs throughout the hospital, including electrical and plumbing; supervises Mechanics and Painter trades.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs equipment and materials fabrication including miscellaneous installations and repairs (including repairs to wheelchairs and beds); continually updates and repairs hospital plumbing systems which including hot/cold water and hospital sanitary system. Evaluates routine and special repair requests to seek opportunity for improvement. Supervises daily tasks of Mechanics and oversees completion of scheduled preventative maintenance. (40%)
  • Responds to, or assigns, service and emergency calls regarding any maintenance repair, electrical or plumbing problem. (40%)
  • Works closely with any outside contractors and engineering firms during construction projects and/or to assure compliance with hospital regulations. (10%)
  • Must demonstrate personal accountability for knowledge and application of DOH, Joint Commission and ICRA requirements. (5%)
  • Maintains locks and keys and door related apparatus. (5%)
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • High school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years’ mechanical experience including burning and welding.
  • Training in plumbing, HVAC and electrical.
  • Must have a basic working knowledge of a wide range of mechanical equipment.

Preferred

  • Stationary Engineering training as well as training in plumbing, HVAC, and/or electrical.
  • Certification in Proper Refrigeration Practices Type I and Type II.
  • Previous Healthcare Experience

Additional Employment Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license.
