Description

  

The Assistant Project Manager supports the planning, coordination, and delivery of commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. Working closely with the Project Manager, this position helps maintain schedules, control costs, coordinate subcontractors and project partners, manage documentation and procurement, and keep office and field teams aligned.


Success in this role requires proactive follow-through, accurate documentation, timely communication, and the ability to anticipate schedule, cost, procurement, and coordination risks before they affect field operations.


  • Assist the Project Manager with day-to-day management of commercial construction projects.
  • Review plans, specifications, contracts, and project documents.
  • Maintain project schedules, record updates, track milestones, and promptly communicate anticipated delays or sequencing conflicts to the Project Manager and project team.
  • Coordinate information, commitments, and required actions among subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and consultants to keep project activities aligned with the schedule and contract documents.
  • Prepare, log, distribute, and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, and related project documentation through review, approval, and closeout.
  • Track project costs, commitments, invoices, and budget changes; reconcile discrepancies and promptly report potential cost impacts to the Project Manager.
  • Participate in project meetings, document decisions and action items, distribute meeting minutes, and follow up on assigned commitments and due dates.
  • Support procurement by identifying required materials and equipment, tracking approvals and lead times, and coordinating orders and deliveries to meet the project schedule.
  • Track subcontractor progress and help identify potential schedule or cost issues.
  • Assist with quality control and ensure work is performed according to plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, warranties, as-built documentation, and final project documentation.
  • Maintain organized project files and records.  
  • Communicate project updates and potential issues to the Project Manager and project team.
  • Assist with resolving construction issues and coordinating solutions between the office and field.
  • Promote a safe work environment and follow company safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
  • One to five years of experience supporting commercial construction projects preferred, with responsibilities involving project coordination, documentation, scheduling, procurement, or cost tracking.
  • Experience with commercial, institutional, retail, healthcare, industrial, or similar construction projects is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, schedules, and project documentation.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience with construction software such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, or MS Project is a plus.
