Production Planning and scheduling supervisor

Summary

Reporting to Director of Supply Chain, the Production Planning and Scheduling Supervisor is responsible for overseeing production planning and scheduling activities to ensure customer demand, material availability, and manufacturing capacity are aligned. This role supervises the planning and scheduling team and works closely with Manufacturing, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Engineering, and Quality to maintain effective production schedules, resolve constraints, and support on-time delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Planning & Scheduling
    • Oversee the development and maintenance of production schedules based on customer demand, material availability, and manufacturing capacity.
    • Monitor production progress and adjust schedules and priorities as needed to address changes in demand, material shortages, or capacity constraints.
    • Identify potential scheduling conflicts, bottlenecks, and capacity concerns and work with Manufacturing to develop solutions.
    • Ensure production orders and priorities are accurately maintained within the ERP/MRP system.
    • Communicate schedule changes, priorities, and potential delivery risks to appropriate departments.
  • Team Leadership
    • Supervise, coach, and develop the production planning and scheduling team.
    • Establish priorities and ensure planning and scheduling activities are completed accurately and timely.
    • Promote accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Improvement
    • Partner with Manufacturing to balance production requirements and available capacity.
    • Work closely with Purchasing and Supply Chain to identify and address material availability concerns.
    • Collaborate with Engineering and Quality regarding new products, changes, and other requirements impacting production schedules.
    • Monitor planning and scheduling KPIs, including schedule attainment and on-time delivery.
    • Identify opportunities to improve scheduling processes, ERP utilization, production flow, and overall planning effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Operations Management, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
    • 5+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, supply chain, or manufacturing operations.
    • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
    • Manufacturing and ERP/MRP experience required.
  • Skills & Compentencies
    • Strong knowledge of production planning, scheduling, and capacity management.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to effectively prioritize in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
    • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office, including Excel.
    • APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM or CSCP) considered an asset.
