The City is seeking a Fleet Monitoring Coordinator to play a vital role in coordinating, monitoring, and supporting the City’s fleet operations. In this highly visible role, you’ll help ensure City vehicles and equipment are available, properly tracked, maintained, and ready to support essential services. You’ll work across departments, communicate with employees and service providers, monitor fleet activity, and help identify issues before they become operational problems. GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Fleet Monitoring Coordinator is responsible for overseeing vehicle activity and performance using the Samsara fleet management platform and supporting transportation operations by providing direct driving services. This includes transporting seniors and disabled residents to community destinations and transporting youth to programs such as the Boys & Girls Club. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, tech-savvy, and experienced in both monitoring systems and providing safe, courteous transportation.  DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES • Safely operate a City vehicle to transport seniors and disabled residents to designated community destinations (e.g., medical appointments, physical therapy, classes, or for local errands). • Provide scheduled pick-up and drop-off transportation services for youth attending the Boys & Girls Club in a timely and professional manner. • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and other relevant transportation and safety standards. • Maintain accurate records of passengers, routes, and schedules. • Ensure a welcoming, safe, and respectful environment for all passengers. • Support efficient fleet operations and promote accountability among drivers and departments. • Monitor fleet data through Samsara to track vehicle location, route progress, idle time, speeding, harsh events, and overall vehicle usage. • Escalate findings to the Office Manager or Department Head. • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports on fleet performance, fuel usage, mileage, incidents, maintenance needs, and driver scorecards. • Ensure all vehicles meet safety, insurance, and registration requirements. • Assist with budgeting for fleet-related expenses and vehicle replacement planning. • Perform other related duties as assigned.  **All candidates considered for the position will be required to successfully pass a background investigation. **The City of New Carrollton is a Drug-Free Workplace. QualificationsMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS • High school diploma or GED. • 2+ years of experience in transportation and fleet operations. • Demonstrated ability to drive safely and courteously, especially when transporting seniors or youth. • Experience using Samsara or a similar telematics platform. • Knowledge of DOT regulations and safety compliance. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. • Prior municipal or government fleet experience preferred. • Proficiency in using a basic computer.  CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIREMENTS • Valid Class A or B CDL with P (Passenger Endorsement).  PHYSICAL DEMANDS (Working Environment) • Combination of office-based work (monitoring and reporting) and field-based work (driving and vehicle inspections). • May be exposed to varying weather conditions while driving. • Requires extended periods of driving, sitting, and standing. • Some lifting of equipment or materials up to 25 lbs. may be required. • Occasional evening and weekend shifts may be required.Â
