FlexStaff is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager to support the Acute Inpatient unit at our client, a premier behavioral health center in Lower Manhattan.

Shift: 11am-9pm (4 days a week, Mon-Fri) w/one weekend rotation per month. 

Salary Range: Min: 132,000 Max: $156,000 commensurate with experience

They are seeking candidates with: 

  • Acute-care behavioral health experience 
  • Strong working knowledge of New York State regulatory standards, including OMH (Office of Mental Health) and OASAS (Office of Addiction Services and Supports).
  • Proven experience managing unionized staff and administering collective bargaining agreements/contracts.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Nurse Manager is a Registered Professional Nurse who serves as a clinical leader, overseeing daily unit operations, ensuring quality patient care delivery, and fostering staff excellence. This role functions in collaboration with, or in the absence of, the Clinical Nurse Manager.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient-Centered Care & Experience: Leads nursing practice grounded in relationship-centered care principles. Oversees and models purposeful hourly rounding, conducts daily patient rounds, addresses concerns, and facilitates service recovery. Champions patient advocacy, communication of experience metrics, and interdisciplinary collaboration for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Quality & Safety Leadership: Designs and maintains a safe, therapeutic, and efficient patient care environment. Leads quality improvement initiatives, participates in RCA processes, and implements corrective actions. Fosters a just culture that encourages error reporting and adherence to best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Operational Management: Provides administrative and clinical oversight for 24/7 patient care delivery, including staffing, throughput, and resource allocation. Manages unit budgets, equipment, and supplies. Ensures compliance with all regulatory mandates (e.g., DOH, Joint Commission).
  • Staff Development & Engagement: Recruits, retains, evaluates, mentors, and coaches nursing staff. Facilitates effective communication, shared decision-making, and staff participation in unit initiatives. Interprets and implements collective bargaining agreements.
  • Professional Practice: Promotes clinical excellence, ethical decision-making, and evidence-based practice. Serves as a professional role model and preceptor, fostering continuous learning and scholarship among staff.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's in Nursing or health-related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience; charge nurse or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must have acute care Behavioral Health experience.
  • Knowledge of New York State regulatory standards (OMH/OASAS).
  • Experience in managing unionized staff.
