JOB DESCRIPTION: An outpatient pharmacist is responsible for dispensing prescribed medications to patients, counseling patients on medication usage, ensuring proper medication management, and offering expertise to healthcare providers. Manages and promotes the safe, effective, and appropriate use of medications.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Medication Dispensing:
o Accurately and efficiently fill prescriptions, ensuring that all medications meet the
prescribed dosage, quantity, and instructions.
o Review prescriptions for therapeutic appropriateness, drug interactions, allergies, and
any other potential concerns.
o Provide proper labeling of medications and instructions for use.
• Patient Counseling and Education:
o Offer counseling to patients regarding proper medication usage, potential side
effects, and interactions with other drugs or foods.
o Answer any patient queries related to their medications, including over-the-counter
products and health supplements.
o Educate patients on lifestyle changes and healthy habits that support their medication
regimen.
• Collaboration with Healthcare Providers:
o Communicate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers regarding
prescription-related issues, such as therapeutic alternatives or dosage adjustments.
o Assist in creating and reviewing patient medication profiles to ensure optimal drug
therapy.
• Medication Management:
o Monitor patient medication regimens to identify and resolve any medication-related
problems.
o Ensure that patients are adhering to their prescribed treatments and provide solutions
to overcome non-compliance.
• Inventory Management:
o Oversee the pharmacy's inventory, ensuring that medications are stocked, stored, and
dispensed properly. o Monitor stock levels and ensure timely reordering of medications and supplies.
• Regulatory Compliance:
o Ensure all activities adhere to federal, state, and local laws and regulations regarding
the dispensing of medications.
o Maintain accurate patient records and prescription documentation.
• Patient Safety:
o Work to ensure the safety and well-being of patients by identifying and preventing
potential medication errors or adverse drug reactions.
o Participate in continuing education programs to stay current with new medications,
treatments, and regulations.
• Administrative Tasks:
o Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medication profiles and other required
documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited pharmacy school.
• Active state licensure as a pharmacist.
• Strong knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics, and drug interactions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
• Previous experience in outpatient or retail pharmacy.
• Experience with patient counseling and medication therapy management.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time position, and core hours and workdays are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 8-5. Thursdays 8-8. This position may require evening or weekend work.Â
