Job Summary

The PSR (Parish School of Religion) Teacher is responsible for providing religious education and faith formation to students in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church and the mission of the parish. The PSR Teacher prepares and delivers age-appropriate lessons, supervises students, maintains a positive learning environment, and serves as a positive Catholic role model.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teach weekly religion classes to assigned grade level (e.g., K–8 or high school)
  • Prepare lesson plans using the parish-approved curriculum and materials
  • Present Catholic teachings, Scripture, sacraments, and moral values in age-appropriate ways
  • Foster a respectful, welcoming, and faith-centered classroom environment
  • Lead students in prayer and model Christian behavior
  • Prepare students for sacraments as needed (e.g., First Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation)
  • Track attendance and communicate student progress or concerns to the DRE and parents
  • Maintain a safe environment in compliance with diocesan child protection policies
  • Participate in catechist meetings, training sessions, and parish events

Job Requirements

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing (preferred or required depending on parish/diocese)
  • Basic knowledge of Catholic teachings and traditions
  • Experience working with children or youth (teaching, tutoring, or volunteering)
  • Willingness to complete diocesan catechist certification and safe environment training
