 RTA’s system includes 4 streetcar lines, 30 bus routes, 2 ferry routes, and paratransit services. Our passengers take more than 19 million rides every year.

Wages for new employees will be based on a tiered pay scale according to the candidate’s skills and experience, as approved by management at the time of hire. New employees will begin at 90% of the applicable starting rate or tier for the first six months of employment.

jOB SUMMARY

Applicants must be available to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as required. Work hours and scheduled days off will be determined based on operational needs.

essential FUNCTIONS

Repairs and maintains high-voltage electrical and mechanical systems.

Applies electrical and mechanical experience when working with streetcar and trolley systems.

Performs maintenance on systems similar to those found in modern light-rail vehicles, including air-conditioning systems, DC motors, generators, lighting systems, circuit diagrams, schematics, and electrical components.

Troubleshoots electrical and mechanical systems and identifies necessary repairs.

Applies knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems, analog and digital electronics, electronic control circuitry, and associated mechanical systems.

Performs corrective and preventive maintenance on electrical transit vehicles, machinery, tools, and equipment.



Inspects, tests, maintains, and repairs heating systems, lighting systems, air-conditioning systems, motors, brakes, and related subsystems.

Follows general shop safety procedures and established testing and inspection methods.

Contributes to ensuring that RTA’s Equal Employment Opportunity policies and programs are properly implemented.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES


Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, and safety procedures used in the maintenance and repair of AC/DC equipment, motor controls, relay logic, semiconductor devices, transducers, digital electronics, microprocessors, and related subsystems.

Ability to operate equipment and vehicles safely.

Knowledge of basic shop mathematics.

Ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair rail equipment, including vehicles, overhead contact systems, tracks, and facilities.

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.

Ability to safely operate a variety of hand tools and power equipment.

Ability to safely operate rail vehicles, emergency trucks, and other equipment and vehicles.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 60 pounds.

Ability to use a volt-ohm meter and oscilloscope.

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.


EDUCATION

 

A high school diploma or GED is required.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

A minimum of two years of journey-level electromechanical experience is required.

A certificate of completion in electromechanical technology or a related field is preferred.


OR

 

Four years of journey-level experience as an electromechanical or electronic technician performing the repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of rapid-transit rail vehicles utilizing digital electronics and microprocessors.
