About the Role

Join as an Associate National Account Manager, Trade and play a key role in driving the success of our books across major retailers including Books-A-Million and Barnes & Noble. In this dynamic, relationship-focused role, you'll partner with sales, marketing, publishing, and demand planning teams to develop account strategies, identify growth opportunities, analyze market trends, and bring great books to readers nationwide. If you're passionate about sales, data-driven decision making, and the publishing industry, this is an exciting opportunity to make a measurable impact. This position reports to the Director, Trade Sales, working out of Quarto’s NYC office on a hybrid schedule. 


What You'll Do

Account Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Books-A-Million, nurturing strong relationships with key account stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute tailored account plans to drive growth and achieve sales objectives.
  • Collaborate with frontlist buyers, category managers and liaisons to ensure appropriate product assortment, inventory levels, and promotional support across the account.
  • Work with the National Account Manager, Trade, to support and facilitate growth at Barnes & Noble.

Sales Strategy and Execution

  • Identify sales opportunities and develop strategies to increase revenue and market share within Books-A-Million.
  • Collaborate with marketing and publishing teams to design and implement promotions, seasonal programs, and featured displays.
  • Conduct regular business reviews with the account, presenting sales data, competitive insights, and performance analyses.
  • Liaise with editorial, marketing, and production teams to ensure timely delivery of titles, effective marketing support, and clear communication of account needs.

Forecasting and Inventory Management

  • Work closely with the demand planning team to forecast product demand and manage inventory flow.
  • Monitor sales trends, stock levels, and reorder points to maximize availability and minimize stock-outs or overstock situations.

Market and Competitive Intelligence

  • Stay current on market trends, competitive titles, and emerging authors to inform account strategy.
  • Provide feedback to internal teams on market shifts and customer preferences.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Analyze POS data, sales trends, and market insights to optimize assortment, promotions, and placement strategies.
  • Provide regular reporting on account performance, key metrics, and competitive positioning to management.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of sales or account management experience, preferably in book publishing or a related industry.
  • Strong negotiation skills, data analysis expertise, and proficiency with sales tracking and forecasting tools. 
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills; able to work effectively with clients and cross-functional teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and data analysis. Experience with Microsoft 365 applications and presentation tools such as PowerPoint and Canva. Familiarity with sales reporting, POS data, and forecasting systems preferred.
  • Some travel required. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant sales experience preferred.
  • Experience analyzing Circana BookScan or comparable retail sales data preferred.
