Center for Family Life in Sunset Park (CFL) is a nationally recognized social service organization. CFL's mission is to promote positive outcomes for children and adults in Sunset Park, Brooklyn by providing a comprehensive range of neighborhood-based family and social services.Â
POSITION SUMMARY
The Childcare Assistance Coordinator helps families access and maintain childcare assistance by screening for eligibility, coordinating enrollments, supporting childcare providers, conducting recertifications, maintaining case records, and connecting families to childcare and other community resources. The role also tracks program data, collaborates with partners and stakeholders, and supports program outreach and advocacy efforts.
I. RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:Â
- Collaborate with agency staff and community service providers to identify families in need of childcare assistanceÂ
- Screen families for eligibility utilizing a standardized tool and complete applicationsÂ
- Enroll childcare providers in the program and assist them in enrolling childrenÂ
- Build knowledge/expertise of the NYC childcare landscape in Brooklyn to assist families to connect with childcare as needed Â
- Determine the appropriate childcare type and setting to meet the family’s eligibility and needsÂ
- Conduct yearly recertifications for continuing eligibility and enrollmentÂ
- Utilize excellent communication skills to engage families and childcare providers, troubleshoot, and assist them with successfully using assistanceÂ
- Conduct visits to childcare providersÂ
- Provide information or referrals for childcare for families who are not deemed eligible for assistance through the projectÂ
- Refer all families to CFLSP Benefits Access & Enrollment team, and to other CFLSP programs and resources as neededÂ
- Collaborate with the fiscal department to track and distribute fundsÂ
- Track childcare enrollment and recertificationÂ
- Maintain project dataÂ
- Create and maintain case records for each family and providerÂ
- Attend meetings with the project team, funder, and stakeholdersÂ
- Participate in advocacy efforts as requested Â
II. QUALIFICATIONS:Â
- Associate’s degree or high school with relevant experience; Bachelor’s degree preferredÂ
- Bilingual in English and Mandarin
- Experience in community engagement or other forms of direct serviceÂ
- Knowledge of the NYC childcare landscape or willingness to learnÂ
- Excellent telephone and email etiquetteÂ
- Proficient in data entry and MS Office tools: Word and ExcelÂ
- Demonstrated cultural competence with immigrant communitiesÂ
- Friendly, highly dependable, and flexibleÂ

- Build and maintain close, daily interactions with co-workers and supervisorsÂ
- Effectively communicate with families and outside agency staffÂ

IV. WORKING CONDITIONSÂ
- Work requires being in an office on-site, sitting at a desk, and using a computer and telephoneÂ
- Some travel is required to engage with families, childcare providers, and community service providers, and to attend advocacy-related eventsÂ
- Flexibility to work occasional evening hours to accommodate families’ availability.Â
- Attend various meetings with internal departments and external stakeholdersÂ
V. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
The Childcare Specialist utilizes high-level interpersonal and problem-solving skills to identify and screen families for childcare assistance, assist in connecting families with childcare providers as needed, track enrollment, and maintain project data.Â
