Job Description

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.

**Please note this is a temporary appointment for up to one year, and a valid New York State Driver’s License will be required for this position.**

Under the general direction of the Director of Human Resources Operations, and specifically under the supervision of the Supervisor of HR Workforce Operations, formerly HR Talent Management, the selected candidate will provide recruitment, onboarding, tracking, and professional development support. As a Human Resources Representative for Workforce Operations, the selected candidate will receive training and assist in the performance of the duties specified below:

- Compiling, maintaining, tracking, and reporting HR Metrics including, headcount, attrition, compliance and vacancies
- Developing and submitting job postings in EHIRE
- Reviewing candidate qualifications and forwarding qualified r sum s to hiring managers
- Collecting, reviewing, and processing candidate compliance documents
- Conducting follow-ups to ensure candidates are accomplishing onboarding milestones within set timeframes
- Conducting agency-specific orientation sessions
- Preparing job offers, release letters, and other correspondence
- Coordinating and attending job fairs, professional conferences, and various other recruiting events
- Planning and attending interviews as the HR representative
- Coordinating start dates with hiring managers
- Coordinating with DOHMH for pre-employment medical processing and tracking
- Facilitating civil service list actions
- Submitting promotions, title changes, level changes, salary increases, etc. in EHIRE
- Supports the Compliance, Training, and Internship programs
- Establishing and maintaining rapport with OCME’s HR Partners, e.g. DOHMH, DCAS, other agencies, etc.
- Collecting DNA samples for new employees, interns, volunteers, etc.
- Operating agency vehicles as an OCME Agency Driver for HR and recruitment related events
- Utilizing internal HRIS system and city data systems such as PMS, NYCAPS, & CHRMS for recruitment and talent related assignments
- Other duties as assigned

LEGAL SECRETARIAL ASST- L2,3,4 - 1022A

Qualifications

1. An associate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 semester credits in secretarial science, word processing, office automation and/or office technology; or

2. An associate degree from an accredited college, and either one year of satisfactory full-time professional general secretarial experience or six months of satisfactory full-time professional legal secretarial experience; or

3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and either two years of satisfactory full-time professional general secretarial experience or one year of satisfactory full-time professional legal secretarial experience; or

4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. Satisfactory completion of a one year specialized training program in secretarial science, word processing, office automation and/or office technology, or completion of 30 semester credits from an accredited college, including 12 semester credits in secretarial science, word processing, office automation and/or office technology may be substituted for one year of full-time general secretarial experience or six months of full-time legal secretarial experience. However, all candidates must possess a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.

Skills Requirement

Ability to type at a minimum rate of 55 words per minute. For assignments requiring stenographic skills, candidates must also have the ability to take legal dictation. For certain assignments, individuals may be required to have higher typing and stenographic
skills.
