Job Description:

Staff members at Renaissance Secondary facilitate experiences for students in service of the school’s mission: Through authentic, integrated learning experiences, Renaissance will empower students to become modern learners who are critical thinkers and problem solvers, communicators, collaborators, and creative innovators who contribute to the world around them.

    

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

Responsible for developing and leading cheerleading programs for Renaissance middle school students. This role  includes providing instruction on cheer techniques, stunts, tumbling, dance, and crowd leadership while fostering a  positive team environment and ensuring the safety of all participants. The coach will also handle administrative  tasks such as maintaining records and communicating with students, parents, and school staff.  

Specific Responsibilities

 

●  Coaching and Instruction  

○  Develop and implement cheer training programs tailored to middle school students’ skill levels and  abilities.  

○  Conduct practices, providing instruction on cheers, chants, stunts, tumbling, dance routines, and  game-day leadership.  

○  Offer personalized feedback and encouragement to help students improve their skills, confidence,  and performance.  

●  Safety and Supervision  

○  Ensure all cheer activities are conducted in accordance with safety protocols and guidelines.

○  Monitor students during practices and performances, maintaining a safe and supportive  environment.  

○  Oversee the safe execution of stunts and tumbling, ensuring proper spotting and progressions.  

○  Conduct regular checks of mats, equipment, and facilities used for cheer activities.  

●  Team Building and Motivation  

○  Foster a positive team atmosphere and encourage teamwork, school spirit, sportsmanship, and  personal growth among students.  

○  Organize and lead team-building activities and spirit events to enhance group cohesion and morale.  

○  Model and reinforce leadership, accountability, and resilience.  

●  Communication and Collaboration  

○  Communicate effectively using TeamSnapONE (Renaissance’s communication vehicle for athletics &  clubs) with students, parents, and school staff regarding practice schedules, events, and student  progress. At a minimum, the coach must communicate with the team on a weekly basis.  

○  Collaborate with other coaches and school staff to coordinate and integrate cheerleading into the  overall athletics and school spirit program.

 ○  Support school events such as games, pep rallies, and community activities.  

●  Administrative Duties

 ○  Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and any incidents that occur during  practices, games, or events.  

○  Communicate effectively with the Athletic Director regarding attendance, progress, and any incidents  that occur during practices, games, or events.  

○  Coordinate logistics for uniforms, performances, and transportation needs (if applicable). Position Description Middle School Cheer Coach Required Qualifications Education and Certifications:

●  High School Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree preferred

●  First Aid/CPR Certification - Colorado

●  Willingness to complete the NFHS  Cheer and Dance Safety  Certification  course. Preferred skills and work experience:

●  Previous experience coaching cheer or working with youth in an athletic or performance setting is preferred.

●  Knowledge of cheer techniques, stunts, tumbling, dance, safety practices, and injury prevention.

●  Strong leadership and motivational skills with the ability to engage and inspire middle school students.

●  Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and school staff.

●  Ability to manage and supervise students effectively in both practice and performance environments. Physical Demands: Essential Physical Requirements:

●  Ability to demonstrate cheer techniques, including motions, jumps, dance, stunts, and tumbling progressions, and assist students as needed.

●  Occasional lifting and supporting of students during stunts (up to fifty (50) pounds).

●  Ability to stand, walk, and actively coach for extended periods (up to ninety (90) minutes or more).

●  Ability to spot stunts and tumbling, which may require quick movement, short bursts of running, or repositioning.

●  Frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, kneeling, squatting, reaching, and other physical movements required for cheer instruction and supervision.
