At First Student, our Dispatchers play a vital role in keeping our operations safe, reliable, and on schedule. You’ll be responsible for coordinating bus routes, ensuring on-time performance, and supporting drivers and monitors with frontline communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dispatch buses, monitor route performance, and communicate real-time updates to drivers.
  • Maintain accurate dispatch logs, tracking attendance, vehicle status, and route adjustments.
  • Support a “Safety First” culture—broadcast daily messages and collaborate with safety personnel.
  • Assign drivers and monitors to routes and assist with the route bid process.
  • Coordinate with the shop team on preventive maintenance, breakdowns, and repairs.
  • Manage phone inquiries and provide timely follow-up to customer and driver requests.
  • Perform additional administrative or operational duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (commercial vehicle license preferred)
  • 2+ years of relevant experience (dispatch, terminal operations, or driving)
  • Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with computers and radio dispatch systems
  • Ability to multitask and work under time constraints
