About Southern Queens Parks Association (SQPA)
Since 1976, SQPA has been dedicated to improving the lives of children, youth, adults, and families in Southern Queens. Our Beacon program offers students enriching, club-like experiences that promote academic achievement and leadership skills. SQPA Beacon Community Center is a school-based community center serving middle school aged children. We are located at the Richard S. Grossley Campus, New Prep Middle School. Our programs are structured like clubs wherein the model offers youth choice in how they spend their time; provides rigorous instruction in sports, arts and youth leadership. NYC becomes the classroom by offering learning opportunities beyond school walls.



Group Leader Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervise students and ensure a safe, positive environment.
  • Support instruction in ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
  • Assist with physical education, visual arts, and performing arts.
  • Promote collaboration through group activities and research projects.
  • Escort students between activities in a timely, orderly manner.
  • Support certified staff with lesson planning and classroom prep.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, activities, and incidents.
  • Attend required trainings, meetings, and program evaluations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Program Director(s).
