Job Summary

Performs a variety of clinical and clerical services in a clinic or Physician's office, including taking basic vital signs on patients, documenting chief complaint, and assisting in minor in office procedures. Performs related work as required. Cross coverage for Moses Rehabilitation Medicine site is required as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Take and record patient’s height, weight, health history and vital signs including blood pressure and blood drawing (venipuncture) and EKG’s
    * Accuracy for results
  • Sterilize instruments and equipment using appropriate sterilization workflow.
    * Safe and sterilized environment.
  • Order and maintain supplies and prepare examination rooms.
    * Stock and supplies at par level.
  • Maintain abnormal results laboratory, pathology specimens and logbooks such as medication temperatures logbooks and Baclofen patient logs.
    * Accuracy and completeness of records.
  • Assist in clerical procedures such as scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, making appointment confirmation calls, recording messages, and completing forms, medical records, and requests for lab tests and
    X-rays.
    * Low rate of clerical errors.
  • Performs routine tests as needed such as urinalysis, blood sugar and hematocrit
    * Accuracy of results.
  • Provide patient education for wellness.
    * Patient satisfaction
  • Prepare examination rooms, cleaning, and sterilizing surface areas.
    * Safe and thoroughly cleaned environment.
  • Assess patient’s condition and determine if emergency exists.
    * Use good independent judgment – patient well-being.
  • Responsible for obtaining authorizations and scheduling diagnostic studies.
    * All patient and clinician needs are met in a timely and complete fashion.
  • All other related functions as directed by the manager.
    * Completely and accurately done


Qualifications

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Certificate of successfully completing a Patient Care Technician training program with presentation of competency based orientation and Basic Cardiac Life Support. Training must include phlebotomy and 12 Lead ECG required
  • Graduate of state approved nursing assistant certificate program or 2 years experience as a direct care provider in a related clinical setting or a combination of education and experience acceptable to the Director of Nursing. Emergency Department positions preferred EMS training or medical corpsman experience.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English. 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) training required
