About the Role

The Mobile Care Unit Specialist provides high-quality non-emergent care and transportation to Ohio’s Hospice patients.

You will work within your EMT scope of practice while providing safe transportation, basic medical care, emotional support, and reassurance to patients and their caregivers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide competent, compassionate, comfort-focused care within the EMT scope of practice.
  • Administer prescribed first aid treatment at the site of origin or in a specially equipped medical transportation vehicle.
  • Perform basic medical interventions within EMT scope, including:
    • Application of splints
    • Administration of oxygen
    • Treatment of minor wounds and abrasions
  • Provide emotional support, reassurance, and compassionate assistance to patients and caregivers.
  • Safely operate and maintain a medical transportation vehicle in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and properly equipped transportation vehicle.
  • Prepare and maintain required logs, reports, and patient care documentation.
  • Accurately document services and patient care using computer-based systems.
  • Assist with activities and responsibilities in other departments as requested to support complete and thorough patient care.
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities to support the quality and effectiveness of Ohio’s Hospice services.
  • Precept new staff members as assigned and help establish positive professional relationships with newly hired team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support patients, families, and the organization.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current, valid certification to practice as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the State of Ohio.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • State minimum automobile insurance coverage.
  • Computer skills sufficient to properly document patient services and care.
  • Ability to safely operate a medical transportation vehicle.
  • Ability to drive during daytime, nighttime, and inclement weather.
  • Open work availability between the hours of 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of EMT experience preferred.
  • EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course) training preferred.
  • HazMat training preferred.
  • Experience providing patient-centered care or working with medically complex or vulnerable populations is a plus.
