POSITION SUMMARY
Johnson Construction Group is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support our commercial and residential construction operations.
This position will work closely with Project Managers, Field Superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, clients, and office personnel. The Assistant Project Manager will help coordinate multiple active projects, maintain project schedules, organize documentation, track materials and selections, and help keep communication flowing between the field and office.
The ideal candidate is organized, comfortable with technology, able to manage changing priorities, and willing to take ownership of assigned responsibilities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop into a Project Manager while gaining experience in both field and office operations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist Project Managers and Field Superintendents with the coordination of multiple commercial and residential projects
• Develop, maintain, and update project schedules
• Coordinate subcontractor schedules, material deliveries, inspections, and other project activities
• Communicate schedule changes and project updates to the appropriate team members
• Track upcoming work and help ensure subcontractors, materials, equipment, and information are available when needed
• Maintain organized electronic and physical project files
• Prepare and distribute project updates, meeting notes, schedules, and action item lists
• Assist with contracts, purchase orders, submittals, requests for information, change orders, permits, inspections, and closeout documents
• Track client selections, approvals, material lead times, and outstanding decisions
• Review project documents, drawings, specifications, proposals, and scopes of work
• Assist with gathering pricing and coordinating information from subcontractors and vendors
• Help identify scheduling conflicts, missing information, and potential project delays
• Maintain clear communication between the field, office, clients, subcontractors, designers, and vendors
• Visit jobsites as needed to review progress, document conditions, and support field operations
• Assist with jobsite photographs, progress documentation, punch lists, and project closeout
• Support Project Managers with budget tracking, cost documentation, invoices, and change order information
• Help prepare client progress reports and internal project status reports
• Participate in project meetings and follow up on assigned action items
• Perform other project coordination and administrative duties as assigned
COMPUTER AND TECHNOLOGY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Use Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel effectively
• Create and update spreadsheets, schedules, reports, and project tracking documents
• Organize and maintain electronic files using consistent naming and filing procedures
• Work within construction management, scheduling, accounting, and document sharing software
• Learn new software and technology as needed
• Enter information accurately and maintain current project records
• Communicate professionally by email, phone, text, and project management platforms
QUALIFICATIONS
• Construction experience is preferred
• Previous experience as an Assistant Project Manager, Project Coordinator, Construction Administrator, Field Coordinator, or similar position is preferred
• A degree in construction management, business, engineering, or a related field is a plus but is not required
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office
• Experience with construction management or scheduling software is a plus
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings, scopes of work, and project documents is preferred
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Ability to support multiple projects and manage competing priorities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to follow through on assignments and meet deadlines
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work independently while remaining part of a team
• Willingness to ask questions, learn, and accept direction
• Ability to identify problems and help develop practical solutions
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Willingness to travel locally between the office and project sites
• Ability to walk active construction sites and navigate uneven surfaces
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders when required
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Positive, can do attitude
• Self starter with a strong work ethic
• Flexible and able to adjust to changing tasks, schedules, and project needs
• Willingness to attend technical training and develop new skills
