The Senior Underwriter of Employer Stop Loss is responsible for evaluating and analyzing risk. This role involves reviewing submissions, assessing medical and financial risk factors, and determining appropriate pricing and terms in alignment with company underwriting guidelines. The Underwriter works closely with sales, brokers, consultants, and underwriting team to ensure profitability and growth within the stop loss product line.
This is a hybrid position based out of our office in Newtown Square, PA.
Your Impact:
- Review and analyze employer stop loss data, including claims experience, demographics, and plan design.
- Assess medical conditions and financial risks to determine appropriate coverage terms and pricing.
- Apply underwriting guidelines and company policies to maintain a balance between risk acceptance and profitability.
- Work collaboratively with sales teams, brokers, and consultants to gather necessary information and provide competitive quotes.
- Ensure underwriting decisions comply with regulatory requirements and company standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation of underwriting decisions and rationales within internal systems.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance underwriting knowledge and expertise.
- Assist in monitoring industry trends, competitor strategies, and regulatory changes that may impact underwriting practices.
- Support underwriters in handling complex cases and contribute to team projects as needed.
Successful Candidates Will Have:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in employer stop loss underwriting
- Familiarity with self-funded health plans and TPA operations
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, insurance, or a related field preferred; progress toward industry designations is a plus
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial and medical data
- Understanding of risk assessment, pricing models, and stop loss policies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
