Job DetailsJob Location: OKLAHOMA CITY, OK 73173Position Type: Full TimeGeneral Description: The Prep/Weld/Polish Technician is responsible for preparing, repairing, and finishing components before and after hard chrome plating. This role requires precision in a manufacturing environment to ensure components, particularly for the aerospace and oil and gas industries, meet strict quality and technical specifications. Part Preparation: Prepare components for hard chrome plating. This includes cleaning, masking, and setting up parts to ensure a flawless plating process. Welding & Repair: Perform basic welding and metal fabrication to repair and build up worn or damaged areas on components. Polishing & Finishing: Polish, grind, and buff plated components to achieve the required surface finish and dimensional tolerances. Use various polishing tools and abrasives to ensure a high-quality final product. Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, and job travelers to identify surfaces requiring specific treatments, masking, and dimensional finishing. Quality & Measurement: Use precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify that all pre-plating dimensions, post-plating thickness, and final dimensions comply with specifications. Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to all established safety protocols, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe handling of tools and equipment in a manufacturing environment. Documentation: Accurately complete all paperwork associated with the job traveler and log data into the company's system to maintain a clear record of the production process. Competencies: Technical Aptitude: A foundational understanding of metal properties, welding principles, and mechanical finishing techniques. Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail is crucial for masking, polishing, and verifying dimensions to achieve high-quality, precise results. Critical Evaluation and Thinking: The ability to inspect parts for defects, troubleshoot issues, and make informed decisions during the preparation and finishing process. Communication: Strong communication skills to report issues, coordinate with team members, and understand complex technical instructions. Manual Dexterity: Excellent hand-eye coordination and mechanical skills for handling tools, parts, and precision instruments. Mathematical Aptitude: Basic math skills for reading measurements and interpreting data from technical drawings. Technical Training Required: Blueprint Interpretation: In-depth training on reading and understanding complex technical drawings to identify critical dimensions and surfaces. Welding Techniques: Hands-on training in basic welding, specifically for repair and build-up applications on various metals. Precision Measurement: Instruction on the proper use of precision measurement devices, including micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators. Polishing & Grinding: Training on various polishing and grinding techniques to achieve specified surface finishes and dimensional tolerances. Work Order & Data Management: Training on how to read and complete job travelers and perform data entry into the company's system. Safety & Equipment Handling: Comprehensive training on the proper use of PPE and safe operation of tools, welding equipment, and lifting equipment like hoists. Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Work Environment: This job operates in a medium-to-heavy manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, temperatures, dust, odors, and metal fumes. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 20/20 vision with or without corrective lenses. Must be able to safely utilize and wear PPE, such as a dust mask, steel-toe footwear, and safety glasses. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 40 hours per week. Travel: No travel is expected for this position. Required Education and Experience: High school graduate One year of experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment is preferred. Experience with welding, polishing, or a related trade is also a plus.
