WSP is currently initiating a search for an Early Career Electrical Engineer to join our Power & Energy team.

The candidate will be involved in projects with our Substation team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges. Takes part in providing technical support for the planning, design, and construction of transmission and distribution substations and related power infrastructure projects. Tasks may include assisting with engineering calculations, preparing design deliverables, supporting equipment selection activities, and contributing to engineering studies under the guidance of experienced engineers. Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of projects. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Your Impact

  • Support engineers and project teams with electrical engineering and design activities related to transmission and distribution substation projects.
  • Assist with collecting, organizing, and analyzing project data for engineering studies, equipment selection, and design development.
  • Support the preparation of engineering deliverables including single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, substation layouts, and construction drawings.
  • Assist with performing electrical calculations related to loads, voltage drop, grounding systems, power distribution, and equipment sizing.
  • Participate in design reviews and quality assurance processes to ensure compliance with applicable standards, codes, and client requirements.
  • Assist with the development of technical reports, specifications, design packages, and project documentation.
  • Support field visits, site assessments, commissioning efforts, and construction-related activities as needed.
  • Learn and apply industry standards including IEEE, NESC, NEC, and utility-specific design requirements.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support project delivery and client objectives.
  • Complete training and professional development activities to enhance technical knowledge and engineering skills.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

 

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles and power systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing assigned responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or other engineering design software.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Previous internship, co-op, or academic project experience related to electrical engineering, power systems, or substation design.
  • Familiarity with power system analysis or engineering software such as ASPEN, ETAP, CAPE, SKM, or similar tools.
  • Exposure to utility, transmission, distribution, renewable energy, or consulting engineering projects.
  • Participation in IEEE or other professional engineering organizations.

Expected Salary (all locations): $60,600 - $100,000
