Job Title: Injunction for Protection (IFP) Project Paralegal

Supervisor: Injunction for Protection (IFP) Project Attorney

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Job Description:

Paralegal to assist with the Injunction for Protection (IFP) Project. The Paralegal will report directly to the IFP Project Attorney and will provide administrative and legal support to the IFP Attorney. This position will be located at the Quigley House Outreach Office located inside the Clay County Courthouse.


Job Responsibilities:

1. 30%-Conduct client interviews via telephone and/or face-to-face.

2. 30%-Maintain client database, client files and attorney calendar.

3. 10%-Draft and send client correspondence and other documents, as requested by the IFP Attorney.

4. 10%-Conduct legal research, as requested by the IFP Attorney.

5. 15%-Coordinate with advocates on referrals and services for legal clients.

6. 5%-Assist IFP Attorney with end-of-month paperwork and other duties, as assigned.

7. Every staff member of Quigley House is responsible to do the following:

• Understand and promote the culture of philanthropy.

• Serve as a philanthropic ambassador within Quigley House and community.

• Help cultivate relationships on behalf of, and in support of, Quigley House.

• Work with Development staff to support grant applications and other Development activities.

8. In addition to the above responsibilities, all employees of Quigley House shall:

• Demonstrate respect for the dignity and equality of all people.

• Maintain strict confidentiality of client and legal information in accordance with Quigley House policies and applicable privilege requirements.

• Display a commitment to the mission of Quigley House and adhere to all policies and procedures.

• Have the ability to travel, work flexible hours and maintain a positive leadership role.


Job Requirements:

Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies from an accredited college or university and at least one (1) year of experience working as a paralegal, preferably in Family Law. Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office software with a high degree of accuracy in data collection and entry, in addition to document drafting. Experience working with MyCase legal database and legal research programs such as LexisNexis and Westlaw a plus. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced legal environment under strict deadlines with the ability to prioritize tasks. Experience dealing with people in crisis. Understanding of empowerment philosophies. Bilingual a plus, but not required.

Must complete all required Quigley House and DCF training prior to unsupervised direct program participant contact.
