Expected pay for this position is $99.42 - $131.73/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity. This is a Salaried position.

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Vice President, Research serves as the executive leader accountable for enterprise-wide research strategy, governance, regulatory integrity, financial stewardship, systems infrastructure, and operational standardization under OSF HealthCare’s Federal wide Assurance (FWA). As Chair of the Research Oversight Council (ROC), this role holds primary executive authority to implement and uphold ROC-approved policies, institutional decision rights, and governance standards across all OSF ministries. Collaborates with executive leadership to guide and oversee research program strategy, establishing research as a foundational element of the OSF Destination Strategy.

 

This leader provides system-level accountability for compliance, risk management, financial performance, and the scalable growth of the research enterprise—ensuring alignment with OSF’s mission, strategic priorities, and defined risk tolerance.

The Vice President partners with academic institutions and external research environments to strengthen strategic collaborations, enhance investigator engagement, and expand clinical and translational research opportunities. Additionally, this role oversees grants administration and ensures alignment of research activities with enterprise strategic priorities, advancing OSF’s competitive positioning, funding success, and mission impact.


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or a related field.

Experience:

  • 10 years of progressive leadership experience in research administration, research compliance, healthcare operations, or related field within a complex healthcare system or academic medical center.
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-level governance structures and overseeing multi-site research portfolios, including FDA-regulated research.
  • Experience implementing enterprise systems and operational transformation initiatives.

Other Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal regulations governing human subject research and institutional oversight responsibilities.
  • Strong executive presence with demonstrated ability to influence C-suite leaders and governance bodies.
  • Proven financial acumen overseeing research financial operations and compliance programs.
  • Experience implementing enterprise systems and operational transformation initiatives.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent terminal degree.  

 

Licensure/Certifications:

 

  • HCCA (Health Care Compliance Association) Certified in Healthcare Research Compliance (CHRC) or equivalent research compliance credentials.
  • Certified IRB Professional (CIP)
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or equivalent process improvement certification, demonstrating ability to optimize research operations, standardize workflows, and improve efficiency.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification, reflecting strong program and portfolio management capabilities across complex, multi-site initiate
