Dental Assistant

E.A. Hawse Health Center

E.A. Hawse Health Center is seeking a dependable and motivated Dental Assistant to join our dental team. The Dental Assistant will work closely with dentists and other dental staff to provide quality patient care in a professional, friendly, and efficient environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist the dentist during examinations, treatments, and dental procedures.
  • Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, equipment, and materials for patient care.
  • Seat patients and prepare them for dental procedures.
  • Take and process dental X-rays as permitted by applicable regulations and training.
  • Sterilize and disinfect dental instruments and treatment areas according to infection-control procedures.
  • Maintain proper infection-control and safety standards.
  • Provide chairside assistance, including instrument transfer, suctioning, and preparation of dental materials.
  • Obtain and update patient medical and dental histories.
  • Provide patients with instructions before and after dental procedures as directed by the dentist.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Assist with maintaining dental supplies and inventory and notify appropriate staff when supplies need to be ordered.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment rooms and dental work areas.
  • Follow HIPAA requirements and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Work cooperatively with dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, front-office staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to patients and their families.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Dental assisting education, certification, or previous dental assisting experience preferred.
  • Dental radiology certification or eligibility to obtain certification preferred, as applicable.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or ability to obtain as required.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, instruments, procedures, and infection-control practices preferred.
  • Basic computer and electronic health record skills.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Must be dependable, professional, and able to work well as part of a team.
