Business Development Manager | Freight Brokerage | Multiple US Markets

Philadelphia, PA | Fort Lauderdale, FL | Tampa, FL | Atlanta, GA | Dallas, TX

About This Opportunity

Mural Group is partnering with a national freight brokerage to place Business Development Managers across five key US markets. This is a direct hire, in-office role for experienced shipper-side hunters who want to own a market, build a book, and get paid on it for years.

This is not a warm leads role. There is no existing book being handed to you. You will cold call shippers, build accounts from scratch, and develop a portfolio of freight relationships that generates residual commissions as long as you maintain it. The commission structure is built to reward people who do the work early -- because the income compounds. Year one is the grind. Year two and three are when it pays off.

One of their BDMs started in late 2024 in a brand new market, committed to the process, and was promoted to Senior Director of Business Development regionally within the year. That is not the exception here. That is what the company is designed to do for people who perform.

What You Will Do

  • Own outbound prospecting in your market through cold calls, email, and direct relationship development with shippers

  • Build and manage a growing book of business across your own freight lanes and shipper accounts

  • Hit monthly gross profit targets and track toward the metrics required for advancement to senior levels

  • Operate in a fast-paced, in-office environment with a short sales cycle and high daily call volume

  • Work directly with operations support on load execution so you can focus on selling, not dispatching

  • Represent the company's brokerage capabilities to prospects and grow long-term shipper relationships

Compensation and Structure

  • Base salary: $80,000 to $100,000 depending on experience; ability to bridge higher in year one based on background

  • Commission: Residual model on the gross profit you generate -- your income grows as your book grows, it does not reset

  • OTE: Approximately $150,000 for a BDM hitting target GP in year one

  • Advancement path: BDMs who hit $50,000 in monthly GP are promoted and given expanded scope and income opportunity

The residual commission model is a real differentiator. At most brokerages, you build a book and watch the structure change under you. Here, the book you build stays yours and keeps paying.

Who This Is For

You have 2 to 5 years of shipper-side sales experience at a freight brokerage. You have opened accounts from cold, not just grown assigned ones. You know what it feels like to pound the phones, hear no 30 times, and close on the 31st. You have probably had your commissions cut or been handed a cradle-to-grave model with no ops support and no leadership path, and you are done with it.

This role is specifically designed for that person.

Strong profiles include:

  • BDMs and BDAs from CH Robinson, TQL, Coyote, Echo, Worldwide Express, Uber Freight, Flock Freight, or similar freight brokerages

  • Sales professionals from transportation technology companies such as TMS platforms, 3PL software, or freight visibility software who have been selling into logistics and transportation buyers

  • Candidates with 1 to 2 years of brokerage experience who are ready to accelerate -- BDA-level entry is available in some markets for the right profile

What We Are Not Looking For

We will save everyone time by being direct:

  • Carrier-side account managers whose primary motion is relationship maintenance, not new business development

  • Freight forwarding or import/export backgrounds -- this experience does not translate to domestic brokerage sales in the way that people expect

  • Candidates with a pattern of short stints -- we are looking for people who commit and build, and job movement under 12 to 18 months without a clear reason (commission cut, company closure, structural change) will not pass our client's review

  • Remote-only candidates -- these roles are in-office full time in each market
